Matt Gemmell<p>Never say never, because I added a couple of useful features to TextIndex recently: latex index-commands import, and Section Mode, the latter of which is demonstrated on the TextIndex documentation page itself! <a href="https://mattgemmell.scot/textindex/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">mattgemmell.scot/textindex/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/GPL3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GPL3</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/indexodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indexodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/BookIndexing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BookIndexing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/IndexingBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IndexingBooks</span></a></p>
Matt Gemmell<p>Quick update on my TextIndex project. Recently added:</p><p>• Inbound cross-references<br>• Run-in style option for deepest level (&gt;2)<br>• Letter-headings option for indexes<br>• Wildcards can now also be used in sort-keys and cross-refs</p><p>Repo and docs updated. Considering this to be functionally complete now, though requests and issues always welcome!</p><p><a href="https://mattgemmell.scot/textindex" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">mattgemmell.scot/textindex</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/GPL3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GPL3</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/BookIndexing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BookIndexing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/index" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>index</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/indexing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indexing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Indexodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Indexodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/indexingtips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indexingtips</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/indexingbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indexingbooks</span></a></p>
Matt Gemmell<p>Just a quick announcement for TextIndex, my latest book/publishing-related open source project! <a href="https://mattgemmell.scot/textindex/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">mattgemmell.scot/textindex/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/GPL3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GPL3</span></a> </p><p>It’s a simple syntax (and parser, in Python) for creating indexes — in the end-of-a-book sense — in Markdown or other text documents. Its purpose is to help with producing scholarly content online and in digital and printed books.</p><p>Read the documentation for much, much more, and don’t forget to check out that page’s own index!</p>
Matt Gemmell<p>I need to write the docs (using FigureMark, my other recent syntax+parser project), but it’ll be <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/foss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>foss</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gpl3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gpl3</span></a> as usual. And the annotated sample doc in the screenshot is from _another_ side-project; my weird little book-in-progress on how to approach designing your own mechanical keyboard layouts. 🤪</p>
Matt Gemmell<p>Further to my twoots here yesterday, I give you: FigureMark! This is already very useful to me, and maybe you’ll find it handy too. Full docs plus a python implementation: <a href="https://mattgemmell.scot/figuremark/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">mattgemmell.scot/figuremark/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/GPL3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GPL3</span></a></p>
stib<p>So, I make bits of software, mostly plug-ins for platforms like <a href="https://aus.social/tags/DaVinciResolve" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DaVinciResolve</span></a> or <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Blender" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Blender</span></a>, mostly because I have a particular thing that needs doing that no-one has catered to. And I yoik them up to Codeberg and if I'm feeling organised I'll write them up on my blog, so that anyone else that has the same particular need can benefit too. I have no intention of selling them, because marketing stuff is not something I remotely enjoy doing, testing and bug fixing is too time consuming, and because I consider it payment for all the free software I get to use.<br>Generally I release everything under the <a href="https://aus.social/tags/GPL3" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GPL3</span></a>, because it's the one I know about. I'm not really a <a href="https://aus.social/tags/coder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coder</span></a>, and I'm far less a <a href="https://aus.social/tags/lawyer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lawyer</span></a>, so I have no idea if this is the best option. <br>So the question I want to <a href="https://aus.social/tags/AskFedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AskFedi</span></a> is: what do you do with small <a href="https://aus.social/tags/code" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>code</span></a> projects you write? What license do you release them under and why, and how do you go about distributing them? <br>I've only ever had one or two people fork my code or make PRs, I don't think a lot of people in my industry also code, so everything I do is a solo project. So I'd be interested in how people find collaborators for stuff they do.<br><a href="https://aus.social/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/FreeSoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreeSoftware</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a></p>
Baa<p><span>Me when I see people complain that GPL3 makes a project hard to monetise because it's incompatible with their proprietary licenses.<br></span><a href="https://mk.absturztau.be/tags/GPL3" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#GPL3</a></p>
