This Is My Glasgow<p>From here, Twomax produced their upmarket knitwear which was sold by the likes of Selfridges, House of Fraser and Harrods. Their products were seen as being particularly fashionable in the 1960s and 1970s, but by the start of the 1980s the business was in decline and it soon closed. The building remained and is currenty being converted into residential housing.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/knitwear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitwear</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/twomax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>twomax</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The former Twomax factory on Old Rutherglen Road in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. Originally built as a cotton mill in 1817, it was taken over by Twomax, a Glasgow-based knitwear manufacturer, in the 1920s. Twomax was started in a disused pub in the Bridgeton by Hugh McClure and Donald McIntosh (the two Macs from which its name was derived), before moving to this location. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/knitwear" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitwear</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/twomax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>twomax</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Birdcatchers by David Ralston above the entrance to new-build low rise housing on Queen Elizabeth Gardens in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. I realise these won't be to everyone's taste, but I really like them in a steampunk kind of way.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/sculpture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sculpture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/steampunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>steampunk</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Former Georgian-era cotton mill on Old Rutherglen Road in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. Built in 1817, it's the oldest surviving iron-framed mill building in the city, and possibly the whole of Scotland. It was originally owned by the cotton Spinner Robert Humphrey and then by Robert Thomson of the nearby Adelphi Cotton Works. It's currently in the process of being converted into residential accommodation.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/industrialarchitecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>industrialarchitecture</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>A fallen petal on the Gorbals Rose Garden War Memorial commemorating Private James Stokes who was born in Hutchesontown in Glasgow and died in Kervenheim in Germany in 1945 while serving with the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery in single-handedly storming a number of enemy positions.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/warmemorial" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>warmemorial</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/victoriacross" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>victoriacross</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/hutchesontown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hutchesontown</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Love this ghost sign. It was recently uncovered and restored as the old Twomax knitwear factory in the Gorbals area of Glasgow was being converted into residential flats. Kudos to the developers for saving it.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/twomax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>twomax</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ghostsign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ghostsign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowghostsign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowghostsign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/sign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Saint Ninian Terrace in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. While this is a relatively new building (dating from the 1990s), it incorporates a number of classic characteristics of Glasgow's traditional architecture, including recessed corner bay windows, a lantern on a feature corner roof, and sweeping curved lines. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/urbanregeneration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>urbanregeneration</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/gorbals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gorbals</span></a></p>
