Queensland government rejects #GreatArtesianBasin #carboncapture and storage project. #Glencore subsidiary CTSCo intended to inject over 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the Great Artesian Basin.

The Queensland environment department determined that the plan could have caused irreversible changes to underground water supplies.

The Queensland Farmers' Federation asserts that #Queensland must lead in protecting the basin, which faces threats from other companies seeking to store carbon.

A major investor in Glencore, the world’s biggest coal exporter, has urged the company to ditch its coal mines and focus on cleaner energy sources. The Church Commissioners for England, which manages the Church of England’s £9.2 billion investment fund, said coal was incompatible with the Paris climate agreement and Glencore’s own net-zero pledge.
