Kris Dreemurr (they/them) of the Pnictogen Wing<p>So, Cathode Ray Dude made me a kind gift of a portable SSD, and so even though I had some partitions set aside on my desktop PC's main drive for a dual boot, it would probably be quite a bit easier to use the SSD for this purpose. <a href="https://meow.social/tags/GhostBSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GhostBSD</span></a> second boot? </p><p>There's some part of our addled mind-brain that really wants to do a dual boot setup and I'm not sure why. Mark<p>With all excitement and bling floating around I am enjoying my time today on GhostBSD Mate edition. Well rounded, everything works ootb, quiet styling (I've turned on a Dracula theme of course ;-).</p><p>Plus'es: samba , VLC, sound, LibreOffice, generic feel, the Stations (backup, software), sudo (I prefer doas, but newcomers will recognize sudo), install and go.</p><p>BSD generic: volume settings (mixer pcm etc), wifi (on a 2018 mini pc with Ryzen 2500U, seriously?) and of course BT are generic issues. Can be solved, but still.</p><p>Oh, and I forgot to mention that GhostBSD totally takes care of graphics drivers, dbus et al. I mean DisplayPort at 185hz ootb, great!</p><p>All in all a nice one 👍🏻, recommended!</p><p>Cc <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://polymaths.social/@rl_dane" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>rl_dane</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://snac.bsd.cafe/r1w1s1" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>r1w1s1</span></a></span> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@lndn" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>lndn</span></a></span> </p><p><a href="https://social.linux.pizza/tags/ghostbsd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ghostbsd</span></a></p>

I'd like to install FreeBSD and GhostBSD in parallel on my Thinkpad. Yes, only one SSD, so no playing around with all the cool features, but learning. Which partition layout do you recommend? Or do I miss the "elegant“ way to have both BSDs completely? Thanks in advance for enlightening me.</p>

Violette A Debian is still really easiest than a <a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/ghostbsd" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ghostBSD</a> for example. It's more difficult to fix the <a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/bsd" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#bsd</a> and there are less forum. <a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/debian" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Debian</a> you can find easily a lot of help inline, and can use the Ubuntu forum too. BSD it's really something you got to learn. I thing that's like a <a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/archlinux" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#archlinux</a> you got to build it, to make your own desktop.<br><br><a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/freebsd" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#freebsd</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/linux" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#linux</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/debian" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#debian</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://imm.erge.to/tag/bsd" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#bsd</a>
Justine Smithies<p>Playing around with the live <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/GhostBSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GhostBSD</span></a> iso to see what works and what doesn't. I knew my AX200 WiFi wouldn't be full speed and I get 19Mbps by 4.26Mbps on my 1Gb by 110Mb connection. It's not a deal breaker as WiFi is only used when I take my laptop out and it is useable. Most of the time it's connected by cable so full speed.<br>All sound works onboard and HDMI, I haven't tried the Prometheus fingerprint reader as yet as I don't use it in Linux. Suspend using zzz seems to work OK without issue too. Tried everything to get sound out of my gen 1 Scarlett 6i6 but it is having none of it, but I did expect that as researched earlier. Dropping to a 2i2 isn't a problem really. I need to think some more about this. 🤔<br><a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/FreeBSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreeBSD</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/RunBSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RunBSD</span></a></p>
