Venya (he/him/dude) 🇺🇦<p>Latest addition to my <a href="https://musicians.today/tags/TrueNAS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrueNAS</span></a> box: <a href="https://musicians.today/tags/freshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>freshRSS</span></a> </p><p>It took a little fiddling; I had to create and specify directories for data, database, and extensions prior to installation, but then it worked properly. Going through my preferred news sources and seeing how much I can get out of my email inbox and into my web-based <a href="https://musicians.today/tags/RSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RSS</span></a> reader instead.</p><p><a href="https://www.freshrss.org" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">freshrss.org</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>

Mike Stone<p>Yesterday I was sitting in this meeting I had no business being in, bored out of my mind, when I ran across this post from <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@joel" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>joel</span></a></span>. </p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@joel/114942666808163058" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">fosstodon.org/@joel/1149426668</span><span class="invisible">08163058</span></a></p><p>I've been using Feedly since Google Reader bit the dust, but I've been looking for an excuse not to (meaning I'm lazy and haven't gotten to it). </p><p>With some time on my hands, I fired up <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a> in a <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Docker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Docker</span></a> container, imported my feeds, and away I go! </p><p>It seems really nice, even just base features. Just need a nice Android client now.</p>
Štěpán Škorpil<p>On weekend I managed to connect all my selfhosted services that support it to the <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/Keycloak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Keycloak</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/SSO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SSO</span></a> (single sign on).<br>Namely <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/Peertube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Peertube</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/NextCloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NextCloud</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/Matomo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Matomo</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/grafana" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grafana</span></a> </p><p>Why to bother with such complication for apps serving only a couple of users?<br>First it's quite easy nowadays.<br>And second, because I want to get rid of passwords and just use <a href="https://mastodon.skorpil.cz/tags/passkeys" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>passkeys</span></a> .</p><p>This is one of many examples showing that good apps should just focus on one task and just use standards to cooperate with other apps focusing on other tasks.</p><p>Peertube for example focuses on videos, not user management. I am very OK that they don't support passkeys, because they implemented OpenId Connect standard to allow me use Keycloak for better login options.</p><p>On the other hand, I am quite sad that SSO is often the one feature, that is proprietary and reserved only for paying customers. SSO is not for huge corporations anymore. It's also usefull for us, selfhosters with couple of users.</p><p>❤️ :opensource: :keycloak:</p>

Thomas Frans 🇺🇦<p>Something I thought was old and boring until I tried it for myself: <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/RSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RSS</span></a></p><p>I especially like it in combination with a way to sync/backup your feeds, like <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FreshRSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreshRSS</span></a>, which I'm self-hosting. It's duct taped together for now as I first wanted to try it out, but I'm liking it so far. I had seen those RSS buttons on websites for a while and I never had a way to use them. I guess that's the fun of self-hosting: you notice a problem, and you can always find a solution.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SelfHost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SelfHost</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SelfHosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SelfHosting</span></a></p>

Paul Chambers🚧<p>A recent update on my <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> phone messed up my PWA apps, including <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/freshrss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>freshrss</span></a> and <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a>. The top status/ notification bar was overlapping the PWA, making what was underneath unaccessible and partially blocked.</p><p>I had to go into Settings - Display - Camera cutout - Your PWA App browser or program - Show camera cutout and changed the default 'auto' to 'hide camera cutout.'</p><p>If anyone comes across that, give that a try <a href="https://oldfriends.live/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a>.
