Ketan Joshi<p>Elon Musk is choking a black community with air pollution to run a racist chatbot on a right-wing social media site. However, most readers of the article are unlikely to be aware of this crucial distinction and so miss the verbal sleight of hand at play.</p><p>Also missing: even these latter emissions are very likely underestimated by current Australian government methods of accounting for gas extraction, which are not based on the latest research into the scale of methane leakage that occurs during extraction, processing and transport of <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/FossilGas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FossilGas</span></a>.</p><p>Also also missing: the safeguard mechanism allows <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Woodside" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Woodside</span></a> to 'reduce' 'their emissions' via dodgy <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/CarbonOffset" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CarbonOffset</span></a> scams that frequently fail to do anything like what is claimed on the tin.<br><a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Auspol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Auspol</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/ClimateJournalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateJournalism</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/NorthWestShelf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NorthWestShelf</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/DirtyEnergy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DirtyEnergy</span></a></p>

EndemicEarthling<p>This week, the freshly re-elected <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Albanese" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Albanese</span></a> Labor government scandalously approved a forty-year extension on the operational life of the gas hub, a move that not only threatens the priceless petroglyphs, but represents permission for <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Woodside" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Woodside</span></a> (the massive gas company that basically runs the state of Western Australia) to profit off a <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/CarbonBomb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CarbonBomb</span></a> that will, once extracted and burned, add somewhere between four and six billion tonnes of climate-wrecking ocean-acidifying carbon dioxide to the active carbon cycle. The cumulative climate pollution from the life of this one project will thus considerably exceed the sum of Australia's projected national domestic emissions for the next decade or more.</p><p>Of all the legacies of this Labor government, this decision (alongside giving the green light to dozens more coal and gas projects) will ultimately be the most impactful. The carbon released for the short-term profits of a wealthy few will contribute to massively disrupting and degrading the habitability of the planet for everyone, continuing to shape life on Earth for at least the next forty thousand years.</p><p>/web/20250529055300/<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/may/28/approval-of-woodside-lng-project-gambles-with-ancient-heritage-for-short-term-gain" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/australia-news</span><span class="invisible">/2025/may/28/approval-of-woodside-lng-project-gambles-with-ancient-heritage-for-short-term-gain</span></a></p><p><a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Auspol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Auspol</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/FossilFuelIndustry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FossilFuelIndustry</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/DirtyEnergy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DirtyEnergy</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/DirtyEnergyDirtyPolitics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DirtyEnergyDirtyPolitics</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/FossilGas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FossilGas</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Murujuga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Murujuga</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/BurrupHub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BurrupHub</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/NorthWestShelf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NorthWestShelf</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/Woodside" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Woodside</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/ALP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ALP</span></a> 2/2</p>

Bin Chicken 🗑𓅠<p>Beware people talking clean hydrogen, they are the ones who brought you clean coal<br><a href="https://reneweconomy.com.au/beware-people-talking-clean-hydrogen-they-are-the-one-who-brought-you-clean-coal/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">reneweconomy.com.au/beware-peo</span><span class="invisible">ple-talking-clean-hydrogen-they-are-the-one-who-brought-you-clean-coal/</span></a></p><p>"Clean Coal" is a furphy, and it's looking like "Clean Hydrogen" is unattainable. In reality, practically all hydrogen made today is extracted from fossil fuels, or is made from water by electrolysis that's powered by a non-renewable source of electricity.</p><p>Some people talk about "Blue hydrogen" and claim they're cracked the secret of making it in commercial volumes at a price that's competitive with renewables, but they're not being honest with you about the cost or the quality of their product. Proponents claim that coal — such as Victoria's incredibly dirty, low-quality, high-pollutant brown coal — can be transformed into "Brown Hydrogen" or "Black Hydrogen" by capturing the carbon liberated during the hydrogen extraction process using Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Same goes for "Blue Hydrogen" that's extracted from fossil gas.<br>They're sorta correct, in the sense that you can get out hydrogen. But if you blink you'll miss seeing where the Carbon goes. By then, they'll attempt to scratch off the label to rebrand their dirty hydrogen as "Green Hydrogen".</p><p>Herein lies the scam: they're saying is can be done cleanly. The problem is that they're using CSS as part of the process. It would be nice if CCS worked at an industrial scale at any price, but it doesn't. Countless millions of dollars have been poured by governments around the world into CCS pilot-plants at fossil fuel companies. The fossil fuel companies have all pocketed the money and failed to produce results.</p><p>Scratch the surface of any hydrogen-bro, and you'll find a hydrocarbon-bro who's deliberately propping-up the unsustainable coal/gas/petrol industry or is an unwitting fool who's science-illiterate.</p><p><a href="https://rants.au/tags/AusPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AusPol</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/ElectrifyEverything" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ElectrifyEverything</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/Renewables" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Renewables</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/FossilGas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FossilGas</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/Electrolysis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Electrolysis</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/Hydrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hydrogen</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/CleanHydrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CleanHydrogen</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/GreenHydrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GreenHydrogen</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/BlueHydrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BlueHydrogen</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/BlackHydrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BlackHydrogen</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/BrownHydrogen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BrownHydrogen</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/CarbonCaptureAndStorage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CarbonCaptureAndStorage</span></a> <a href="https://rants.au/tags/CCS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CCS</span></a></p>

They're claiming that they will blend hydrogen into the fossil gas supply, but cannot say how this will make fossil gas clean, or give a timeline, or reveal how much it will cost consumers to renovate their homes to install pipes and cooking/heating appliances that are capable of handling hydrogen.</p><p>Hint: it takes only a Chemistry-101 level of understanding to see this is technically extremely difficult to practically impossible, in addition to being economically unfeasible, and too slow to meet decarbonisation targets to tackle climate change.</p><p>In other words, this is more lies from the increasingly desperate fossil fuel industry in a bid to prolong their planet-destroying business model.
