Cloud Cloak

A dull and damp day, and the hills are wrapped in clinging cloud. This outwash plain is rarely dry but recent rains have left a legacy of full rivers and rushing waterfalls.

A field with a light covering of snow showing the lines of dark coloured tracks and different, lighter lines of the harvested crops etc through it. There is one small, bare tree in the left of the image, with some low grasses around it, and another in the distance, about half way up the image. There is a band of fog or mist partly obscuring that distant tree and the smaller bushes around it, creeping toward the foreground a little. In the far distance on the left is a strip of low, tree covered hills, while to the right is a stand of darker trees. The clouds are a uniform grey above the scene, but there is a flash of bright sky just above the hills.

Isolation

This is portrait format image with a single, young tree with bare, windswept branches in the middle of a field. It is surrounded by a low band of mist or fog, and there are patches of snow on the ground and one line of snow leading our eye from bottom right of the frame past the tree on into the distance. The field is a dark brown with clumps of dried grasses in shades of paler browns and yellows. In the distance, just above the band of fog is a line of trees, with above them possibly some low hills, though it's hard to make out. The tones of the image give it a warm feeling, despite the patches of snow. It speaks of isolation and loneliness to me.

An early winter country scene. A long farm lane with light snow on it leads up from the bottom left of the photo part way up the right side where it continues out of the frame. A small dilapidated house that is shingled and now very grey and weathered looking with boarded up windows is on the left of the track. There are bare trees around it and the whole scene is shrouded in fog giving an ethereal atmosphere.

February 14th 2019, 2pm, and a visit to a waterfall becomes a mystery tour.

As we reached our destination, the fog was behind us and lifting slowly. The sun was beginning to burn away the remaining wet pockets, showing the silvery snow below.

Sun Burning Through the Mist in Round Pond Harbour, Maine
We used to love our trips down to Maine when Steven was teaching in The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. I used to go around photographing all the beautiful scenes while he was teaching all day. Poor guy, but lucky me!
