Companies that tested their technology in a handful of supermarkets, pubs, and on websites set them to predict whether a person looks under 25, not 18, allowing a wide error margin for algorithms that struggle to distinguish a 17-year-old from a 19-year-old..</p><p>AI face scans were never designed for children seeking asylum, and risk producing disastrous, life-changing errors. Flipboard Tech Desk<p>Sports stadiums in the U.S., are turning increasingly towards facial recognition in order to save time, and therefore money, by shortening lines at stadium entrances.</p><p>From MLB to the NFL, fans across the country are being offered express entry into sports grounds if they opt in to the technology. However, privacy advocates argue that these kinds of surveillance tools are never totally secure, make it easier for police to get information about fans, and fuel “mission creep” where surveillance technology becomes more common, or even required. <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://flipboard.com/@WIRED" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>WIRED</span></a></span> has more.</p><p><a href="https://flip.it/Tdp8Pn" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">flip.it/Tdp8Pn</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> (subscription may be required)</p><p><a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/FaceRecognition" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FaceRecognition</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Biometrics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Biometrics</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/MLB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MLB</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/NFL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NFL</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tech</span></a></p>

The account, with 90,000 followers, targeted individuals from viral videos and revealed their personal information to millions of viewers.
