This Is My Glasgow<p>Love this ornate hinge on the Gothic style Partick East Free Church (now Dowanvale Free Church) in the west of Glasgow. Designed by Alexander Petrie, it was built in 1880. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/church" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>church</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowchurches" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowchurches</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/partick" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>partick</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/hinge" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hinge</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/red" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>red</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Love this ornate knocker on the main door of Glasgow Cathedral, especially the little winged creature in the middle.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowcathedral" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowcathedral</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/designdetail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>designdetail</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>An old door bell plate from a townhouse in the Park District area of Glasgow, with separate buttons for Visitors and Servants. I've always presumed the Servants option was to be used to get the attenton of the servants of the house (for deliveries etc) rather being for servants to ring.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorbell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorbell</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/parkdistrict" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>parkdistrict</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Love the shape of this door handle, as well as the patina and wear on it. It's on one of John James Burnet's grand late Victorian townhouses on University Gardens in the West End of Glasgow.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowuniversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowuniversity</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorhandle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorhandle</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>I spotted this old door bell on a Victorian townhouse just of Byres Road today. These bells usually came in pairs, one for tradesmen and delivery people to call the Servants, and another one marked Visitors for those coming to see the owners. In this case, the Visitors bell is missing, but the Servants one is still there.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorbell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorbell</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/design" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>design</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/byresroad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>byresroad</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>I love the inscription around this old door bell on a rather grand townhouse in the West End of Glasgow. Apparently, this was once a common feature of door bells, and was even parodied by A.A. Milne in Winnie the Pooh. However, this is the only surviving example I've ever come across in Glasgow.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorbell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorbell</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowestend" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowestend</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldglasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldglasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Love these door handles on a townhouse on Saint Vincent Street in central Glasgow. The house itself was build in the 1820s, but I think these are Art Nouveau in style and date from refurbishments in the 1890s.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/handles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>handles</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorhandle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorhandle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artnouveau" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artnouveau</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Love the shape of this door handle on Glasgow University's West Medical Building, which was designed by James Miller and was built in 1903. The patina on it is pretty good, too!</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorhandle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorhandle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowuniversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowuniversity</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/patina" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>patina</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Treasurer of Police Letterbox on a door to the 1880s Glasgow City Chambers. No matter how hard I try, I can't make out the top bit of writing.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ghostsign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ghostsign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowghostsign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowghostsign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowcitychambers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowcitychambers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/letterbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>letterbox</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>Love these door pulls on the 1890s former Sun Life Building on West George Street in Glasgow, especially the little putti clinging on to them!</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artnouveau" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artnouveau</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/design" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>design</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorhandle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorhandle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/putti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>putti</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/designdetail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>designdetail</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>I've been in and out of Glasgow University's Graham Kerr Building, home to what was the Zoology Department when I was an undergrad, many times over the last 30 years, but it was only yesterday that I noticed this wonderful little detail of a snake on the handles of the outermost doors.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/zoology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>zoology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorfurniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorfurniture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/snake" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>snake</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/doorhandle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doorhandle</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowuniversity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowuniversity</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a></p>
