Andreas Gohr<p>remember when I asked for a replacement for <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>disqus</span></a> and then ranted about how none of the available solutions would also integrate with <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastodon</span></a>?<br><br>Well shit. I did it again and scratched my own itch and barfed out another open source project.<br><br>Introducing: Meh..<br><br><a href="https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2025-03/26-meh_another_comment_system" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2025-03/26-meh_another_comment_system</a><br><br>* single install serves as many sites as you want<br>* can be used in static websites (it's lightweight web components in the frontend)<br>* imports Disqus<br>* fetches Mastodon replies as comments<br>* supports different languages (so far en, fr, es, de)<br>* probably has bugs<br><br><a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/opensourcesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensourcesoftware</span></a> <a href="https://fedi.splitbrain.org/tags/comments" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>comments</span></a><br></p>
Marianne Spiller<p>Thanks for all replies!<br>Leaving <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/GitHub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GitHub</span></a> has a different implication: I'll have to dismantle comments on my <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/blog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blog</span></a> using <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/utterances" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>utterances</span></a>. And as <a href="https://konfigurationsmanufaktur.de/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a> &amp; others are not a valid alternative, it seems I have to build this alternative by myself 🤯</p>
Andreas Gohr<p>I am still thinking about what to do about my blog comments. I identified commentario, isso, remark42 and schnack as possible self-hosted replacements for disqus.</p><p>Unfortunately none of them seem to support webmentions or fediverse integration.</p><p>Is there anything I'm missing?</p><p><a href="https://octodon.social/tags/blog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blog</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/comments" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>comments</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>disqus</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/commentario" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>commentario</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/isso" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>isso</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/remark42" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>remark42</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/schnack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>schnack</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/webmentions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>webmentions</span></a> <a href="https://octodon.social/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a></p>
Spocko<p>I read that SPAM is very popular in Hawaii <br>"from SPAM® Fried Wontons to SPAM® Musubi, and SPAM® products became a fixture for breakfast, lunch and dinner."<br>But is <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/VEGAN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VEGAN</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/SPAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SPAM</span></a> popular there too? I'm asking <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> users in <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Hawaii" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hawaii</span></a> if they know. <br><a href="https://www.hormelfoods.com/ask-and-answer/why-are-spam-products-so-popular-in-hawaii/#:~:text=The%20true%20root%20of%20the,rice%20becoming%20a%20popular%20meal" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">hormelfoods.com/ask-and-answer</span><span class="invisible">/why-are-spam-products-so-popular-in-hawaii/#:~:text=The%20true%20root%20of%20the,rice%20becoming%20a%20popular%20meal</span></a>.<br>(Context: <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/DISQUS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DISQUS</span></a> (DISSUX) on the Eschaton blog kept labeling a post from my friend JeffCO as SPAM. Konrad Hinsen<p>Got a note from <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/Disqus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disqus</span></a> announcing ads to appear soon in the comments section of my blog. That looks like the right moment to get rid of Disqus.</p><p>Is there something similar with <a href="https://scholar.social/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> support? I don't want to move the blog itself to the Fediverse (too much hassle), just the comment system.</p>
