Brad Linder<p>Google is discontinuing development of Lacros, an initiative that would made it possible to update the ChromeOS browser on Chromebooks without rolling out OS updates, instead shifting focus to using more Android frameworks for Chromebooks. <a href="https://buff.ly/3Y2YuBQ" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">buff.ly/3Y2YuBQ</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ChromeOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChromeOS</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/WebBrowsers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WebBrowsers</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Chromebooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chromebooks</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Lacros" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Lacros</span></a></p>

Daigoro Toyama<p><span>I usually brush off these "Chromebooks don't work for me" blogs, because AFAICT most of the complaints listed on those entries are either irrelevant for me or easily solvable. This one, however, has a valid point.<br><br>"The ordinary task of resizing an image to a specific size or sharing files to and from a ChromeOS tablet is unnecessarily frustrating."<br><br>This exact issue bit me yesterday as I tried to crop an image to a specific size. The built-in app on ChromeOS (is it called Gallery?) allows you to resize and crop, but it DOESN'T show the size in pixel. It means I had no way of cropping the image to the size and shape I wanted.<br><br>I ended up ssh-copying the image to my Kubuntu box to do the job.<br><br>Yes, I can install the same KDE app on the Linux environment in ChromeOS, but why? Resizing / cropping images is such a basic task, it should be natively supported. I'm not talking about running VSCode.<br><br>I'm not giving up ChromeOS because of this, but I agree with the author that it's a major WTF.<br><br></span><a href="https://infosec.town/tags/Chromebooks" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Chromebooks</a><span> </span><a href="https://infosec.town/tags/ChromeOS" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ChromeOS</a><span><br><br></span><a href="https://www.androidcentral.com/chromebooks-laptops/why-im-switching-from-chromebook-to-surface-tablet" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">www.androidcentral.com/chromebooks-laptops/why-im-switching-from-chromebook-to-surface-tablet</a></p>
