Paul Riismandel<p>This is a great investigation into why new models of "retro" tech like the cassette Walkman or portable CD player aren't as compact and advanced as they were in the 2000s. <br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/audiophile" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>audiophile</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CDPlayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CDPlayer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cassette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cassette</span></a> <br><a href="https://www.theverge.com/24295971/we-are-rewind-fiio-cassette-player-cd-dm-13" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theverge.com/24295971/we-are-r</span><span class="invisible">ewind-fiio-cassette-player-cd-dm-13</span></a></p>
Paul Riismandel<p>Listening to a little CD boombox while I work and finding that the very high-pitched mechanical noise it makes is a little distracting. Had to move it a little farther away from me and subsequently turn the volume up a smidge. </p><p>I've noticed this sound before with other players, but I guess I'm usually farther away from the player or wearing headphones for listening. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cdplayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdplayer</span></a></p>
Paul Riismandel<p>Fiio announces new portable CD player with balanced headphone and digital audio outs with a price of US $179, or £179. I see that as good news, especially since you can pick up used CDs of awesome albums for a fraction of original price, and new CDs are still cheaper than vinyl. Plus, you don't need internet and they're Crowdstrike-free!</p><p>But it's hard to find decent quality new players that aren't aimed at the audiophile specialist market.</p><p><a href="https://darko.audio/2024/07/a-portable-cd-player-in-2024/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">darko.audio/2024/07/a-portable</span><span class="invisible">-cd-player-in-2024/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/compactdisc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>compactdisc</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cdplayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdplayer</span></a></p>

Paul Riismandel<p>Saw this amazing looking Proton branded cassette-CD-combo-receiver at the thrift store and was mighty tempted. Proton was a specialty hi-fi brand in the 80s. But the price was $70, which may or may not be a good deal, but is beyond my thrift store take-a-flyer threshold.<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/vintagestereo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagestereo</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/hifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hifi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cassette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cassette</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cdplayer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdplayer</span></a></p>
