Colbert is NOT off the air, NOT silenced. For now. He also responded to concerns around the cancellation of Colbert’s show, which came just days after it was reported that Paramount agreed to a settlement with President Donald Trump. </p><p>'I mean Colbert is a comedian. And you keep talking about journalism and fairness and news, but I guess where is that line between? We all remember Carson and Jay Leno giving Reagan the business. Where does that fit into this discussion?' CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla asked Carr.</p><p>'I think what’s interesting about all of this is these late night shows, not just *The Late Night Show,’* but across the board, they have such a storied history, and it’s sort of sad to see what’s happening to Colbert. They obviously can’t get it done.</p><p>They’re not making money over there, but I think they need a course correction. And frankly, I think, you know, the media industry across this country needs a course correction' Carr responded.</p><p>'Again, the American people simply do not trust the mainstream media. And for broadcasters, again, different than cable, different than podcasts. For broadcasters, they have a federal license, and they are obligated to operate in the public interest. The network, for its part, has insisted that the move was purely financial.<br>In his analysis of the situation, Letterman made his own thoughts clear. Looking to avoid a repeat of what happened with 60 Minutes in an effort to appeal to Skydance CEO David Ellison, Letterman theorizes that CBS told Ellison, 'Hey boys, here’s what we’re gonna do: not only are we gonna get rid of that guy, we’re gonna get rid of the entire franchise so you don’t have to worry about another guy. It’s gone!'
