After a long week of work, tried to the movies with my family in a nearby town to see Lilo and Stitch. They had capitviewer (closed captioned devices) . But the captions just kept displaying classic movie quotes while the movie was playing. Got a refund and movie passes. Might as well stick with my local theater from here on.Heh, Deaf life.

@brucelawson whisper can't just transcribe, it also can put out SRT-Files which you can import in Programms like davinci resolve to add closed captions in the video file (which time stamps and everything)!
Saved my ass some days ago. But even though it's actually quite good, you still need to (and should anyway) check the output for errors.
Y’all. I just created my first video captions, and it makes me a little giddy. Accessibility is fun.

Kdenlive has a great subtitle and speech recognition feature, but it can be a pain to set it up when using Flatpak.

"Quickly Toggling Closed Captions on Apple TV (But Not in Netflix)"
This is a great tip.
As @gruber suggested, this should be part of the Apple TV standard, required for all apps that support CC.
I love the idea of triple-tap the back of your phone to toggle captions. Should be able to tell Siri to do the same. In ALL services.

The culture in the #fediverse of always adding meaningful alt text to pictures is really fantastic. Not just because of the ethical commitment to making this an accessible place for everyone but it actually unlocks a lot of richness and creativity and forces us all to be more intentional about what we are posting and why. I find myself really thinking about how to describe images and what they mean. Its a great writing exercises and adds layers of complexity and depth to what we share. Making things better for people with accessibly issues makes things better for everyone in the process.
Note: all recognition happens locally. The flatpak is also marked safe.
There are also language models you can download for French and Polish (https://abb128.github.io/april-asr/models.html)

If you want Live Captions on Linux, check out https://github.com/abb128/LiveCaptions – you can also find it on Flathub and it works splendidly and, unlike the Windows version, it automatically saves a transcript. This is perfect for making your live streams and videos more accessible. And it’s free and open source.
So I'm curious with my followers. Why do u follow me?

Speaking of #audioDescription... the BBC just dumped 643 episodes of classic #DoctorWho onto #iPlayer. From my spot checks, all of them (or close to it) have both audio description and #SignLanguage if that's your thing. Hopefully #captions too. #accessibility #BSL #closedCaptions #DrWho
2/ As he continues to recover from the stroke he endured last year, Fetterman said he now uses a device to provide captions for him to help process information—technology he also brought with him on Late Show.
“I never thought about captioning before I had the stroke,” Fetterman said, “and now I realize I have to be an advocate for anyone with a disability to have the kind of technology that allows them to fully participate in society.”
My children cannot or will not watch TV wo #captions.
