rlonstein<p>(2/2) Checked each discrete then jumpered it and put power and it worked, but tapping the front caused problems. Cleaned it up again with isopropyl and tried unsuccessfully to separate the pieces of the front panel without breaking anything. I suspect there's corrosion I can't reach. Since I'm only about $10 in on this, I tried reassembling and powering it and it works on external power as long as I don't tap too hard.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/calculator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>calculator</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/vintagecomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputing</span></a></p>

This one had a failed set of Radio Shack NiCads that damaged the battery contacts. I cleaned it up and assembled a battery pack but couldn't get it to work so set out disassembling it and testing. I assumed the TDK-made LAC failed, it wasn't stepping up the voltage from 3.6VDC to &gt;14VDC to power the display as I couldn't get a consistent reading but it looks like it's damage elsewhere from the leaks.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/vintagecomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputing</span></a></p>
