BRIAN ENO
Ambient 4 (On Land)
2018 Europe reissue

A ominous last go-round of the night.

This is my second favourite of the original Eno ambient records (behind Music For Airports) and the only one that I don’t have an original pressing of.

For me, this one sounds more like a science fiction score. It emanates such a feeling of impending doom and dread, and uses a lot of animal and nature sounds, noises of random objects, as well as unused tape from other Eno projects which are screwed, hacked, manipulated and mixed in with everything else.

It is simultaneously an unnerving AND wonderful aural experience, particularly late in the evening, with the lights off.

The Blade Runner soundtrack BEFORE the Blade Runner soundtrack.

It turns out Music for Airports can also be Music for Aquariums. I just left the aquarium in Lisbon. I had to put on music because the noise of the families, people snapping photos more than looking, and the general chaos was just not the experience I wanted. (Also: poor fish.) But Brian Eno saved the day.
I wonder if this compulsion for photos comes from our society's deep seeded need for owning things.

BEATIE WOLFE & BRIAN ENO
Luminal
2025 UK pressing

After really enjoying the Eno/Wolfe record so much the other day, I decided to go out and get the Wolfe/Eno companion to it. And although it’s a bit different than the ambient Lateral, I still like this a great deal.

The main difference here of course is the inclusion of Wolfe’s vocals, which are very haunting a beautiful.
The music remains atmospheric, spacey, and beautifully mellow.

These two’s singular talents are a perfect match for each other.
A wonderful companion piece.

Since "Toute en Musique" hosted by Marie-Christine Poitier went on summer hiatus, and "Rêveries" hosted by Julie-Christine Parent became inaccessible through Android devices due to #Ohdio app engineering changes, I am in need of "Sonic Barbiturates" online radio streams along the lines of BBC Radio 3 #NightTracks (e.g. #BrianEno #HiroshiYoshimura, #Eluvium, #Satie #NilsFrahm, #Chopin #Debussy #ChillyGonzales, #StarsoftheLid, #CarolineShaw) #ambientMusic #minimalism #classicalmusic #lullabies

If you’re AT ALL a fan of Eno’s ambient works, then this is a must have. This is a beautiful sounding record, and sits right next to Ambient 1 (Music For Airports).
I was unfamiliar with Beatie Wolfe and all her weird and wonderful approaches to art before this album.

There’s a companion record that goes with this, one with Beatie’s name over Eno’s, and I like this one so much, I think I’m going to grab it just out of curiosity.
Wonderful ambient work this is.

"Pride (In the Name of Love)" is a song by Irish #rock band U2. It is the second track on the band's 1984 album, #TheUnforgettableFire, and was released as its lead #single in September 1984. The song was produced by #BrianEno and #DanielLanois. Written about the American civil rights leader #MartinLutherKingJr, "#Pride" received mixed critical reviews at the time, but it was a major commercial success for U2 and has since become one of their most popular songs.
