Gord Johns was there and then jetted off to other spots in the riding. 🏃 </p><p>I helped out with some data entry, then knocked on doors in my neighbourhood. </p><p>Talked to some voters (pro and not so sure). Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>Sitting here in a lineup on <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/bchwy4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bchwy4</span></a> for some road work. </p><p>Our 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric just passed 200,000km this week! I got a snap of the odometer at palindrome 199991 which was satisfying. But a sudden snow storm/hail storm prevented me from capturing 200k and 200002 officially, but that's ok.</p><p>I just made its *first* appointment to have its brake pads replaced. Amazing longevity on these EVs for brakes. I really should have done it about 10k ago but still.</p><p>Great car. Compact snow in most places. Drive carefully if you are commuting.</p><p>The Hump is not bad but Sutton Pass looks snowy. A sea lion found its way up Kennedy Inlet, which connects pretty directly to the large Kennedy Lake. Not sure why she decided to come up on land, let alone wander into the road. Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>Back on the Bus! 🚎 <br>I have decided this year I will try to again take the bus from Parksville instead of driving the extra 20km to north Nanaimo.</p><p>My departure time from home (6:00-6:15) will be the same but it will mean I get home at 17:00 instead of 16:30.</p><p>I miss the added quiet time on the bus, especially in the morning. Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>I participated in a Zoom meeting today of the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District Transportation committee. They are looking into creating a new emergency highway route on one of the industrial logging roads out of town with an eye on lobbying/justifying a permanent secondary road. </p><p>The Ministry of Transport was making a presentation updating the group on their work to identify and evaluate potential routes.</p><p>They identified a total of 7 routes (some overlap).</p><p>They are not considering the reactivation of the railway.</p><p>When I asked them to expand on whether they had any discussions about the railway, they gave a boilerplate answer about the railway owner (The Regional Districts and First Nations) receiving funding to do their own studies and determine the future of the railway, essentially washing their hands of any direct involvement.</p><p>I am so tired of our highway-blindered transportation ministries in this country.</p><p>The only good news is there are people on the regional committee that are supportive of taking a more holistic and strategic approach… the bad news is, there have been people like that for decades. Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>Surely this is proof that Karma is real.</p><p>A couple years ago I was one of the first people on the scene of an accident on <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/bchwy4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bchwy4</span></a> where a large cargo truck ran into a semi truck trailer. The driver of the cargo truck was hurt and had to be attended to by EMT. The semi trailer never stopped and left the scene, it passed me just a few hundred metres from where the accident happened before I got there.</p><p>A few days later I got a call from ICBC asking if I could provide any information. I sent a detailed description of where I saw the semi trailer, what state it was in, etc.</p><p>A few weeks later I got a random phone call from ICBC thanking me for the report and indicating that it had a major impact. I suspect that it proved that the person who was hurt was not responsible... or it proved the identity of the truck that left the scene.</p><p>All to say... if you see something that the authorities might be interested in, report it! This logging truck appears to be holding the entire tree. The bottom of the tree is the dark log on the top left. Resolution isn’t high enough to see the rings.</p><p>I admit I have a hard time with all of it these days.
