WEDNESDAY 1 oz lemon juice ¾ oz orgeat ½ oz banana liqueur 1¼ oz aquavit ½ oz Pot Still Lightly Aged Rum ❶ ¼ oz Black Blended Rum ❺ Garnish: mint sprig, orange peel, edible orchid Method: Combine all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice. Shake and open pour into glass. Top with ice and garnish. This is a crowd pleaser no matter how many tiki drinks you've tried: safe enough for newcomers, but the aquavit delivers something interesting to those who've had them all. Express lemon peel and use as garnish. Follows the Negroni template, but is really out there. Chris RuppelWINTER BASIL SMASH handful fresh basil 1 oz lemon juice ¾ oz simple syrup 2 oz aquavit Garnish: basil leaf Method: Set aside one basil leaf as garnish. In a shaker, muddle remaining basil leaves with lemon juice and simple syrup. Add aquavit and ice cubes, shake, and double strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice cubes. An interesting riff on the Gin Basil Smash, it's refreshing yet has a touch of warming notes from the aquavit. Don't be scared off by the two full shots. This one is balanced nicely by the generous amounts of lemon and simple. I had Thai basil on hand when I took the photo and I thought it worked well in the cocktail, even though the spec calls for the Italian variety. Try it with <a href="https://mstdn.party/tags/Aquavit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Aquavit</a> instead of <a href="https://mstdn.party/tags/gin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#gin</a>, that was my inspiration for the Trident.
