Colin McMillen<p>Finally, it would have been sad if <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/Quicktake" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Quicktake</span></a> for <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/AppleII" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleII</span></a> didn't benefit from this DHGR pixel-fest. Latest release, v24.0.1, is now able to dither your Quicktake pictures to a beautiful 512x192 mix of black-and-white pixels, making them look better than ever!</p><p>Quicktake for Apple II gets another notable improvement, with the Quicktake 200 JPEG decoder speed improved by about 200% (decoding takes a bit less than 2 minutes @1MHz), and the Quicktake 150 decoding time is now under 3 minutes).</p><p>The project's homepage is at <a href="https://www.colino.net/wordpress/en/quicktake-for-apple-ii/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">colino.net/wordpress/en/quickt</span><span class="invisible">ake-for-apple-ii/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/Retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Retrocomputing</span></a></p>
Colin McMillen<p>Once I had the plumbing necessary to display DHGR in my library, it would have been too bad to stop there, so, guess what can now show you album art in double-high-graphics-resolution? You're right, that's <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/Wozamp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wozamp</span></a>, your favorite <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/AppleII" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleII</span></a> media player!<br>(*video playback still in simple HGR, for obvious bandwidth reasons)<br>Release available at <a href="https://www.colino.net/wordpress/en/wozamp-an-apple-ii-music-and-video-player/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">colino.net/wordpress/en/wozamp</span><span class="invisible">-an-apple-ii-music-and-video-player/</span></a></p>

4am ❧<p>Fun fact: Copy II Plus v6, the first version that supported ProDOS, shipped with a number of empty subdirectories on the disk. Their sole purpose was to trigger the new tree-shaped directory selection screen, as a means of teaching users about subdirectories. The manual has a whole section about it.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AppleII" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleII</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a></p>

Colin McMillen<p>Preview of Ammonoid, the soon-to-be-out new Apple II file manager.</p><p><a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/RetroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/AppleII" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleII</span></a></p>
Colin McMillen<p>Not yet a release, but I think it's functional enough for a beta of Ammonoid, a file manager in the style of MC for the Apple II. It aims to be simple, and implements VSDrive so disks images presented over serial (David Schmidt's ADTPro, Bobbi Manner's ProDOS-Utils or my own surl-server) are accessible. I'd like to hear your thoughts! </p><p>Floppy image available at <a href="https://www.colino.net/tmp/ammonoid.po" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">colino.net/tmp/ammonoid.po</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/RetroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/AppleII" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleII</span></a></p>

(I'm looking at performance, specifically with the Quicktake 200's JPEG decoder, but give stabs at other parts too, like the ditherer.)</p><p>To celebrate, here's a picture of my cat Mistigri hiding in the bushes to avoid the current heatwave as much as possible.<br><a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/CatsOfMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CatsOfMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://piaille.fr/tags/Retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Retrocomputing</span></a></p>
