fiona and marcOur route led us all the way uphill... we pedaled until we discovered Gradishte by coincidence.<br>

On 'My Guide Bulgaria' is written: <br>
'Gradishte is a historic landscape park in the<br>
Rhodope Mountains where visitors can enjoy<br>
spectacular views, pleasant trails, and see the<br>
remains of an ancient Thracian rock sanctuary<br>
According to some experts, Gradishte is the<br>
largest temple of its kind in Bulgaria and very<br>
possibly in Europe as well. The big rocks and<br>
stones resemble various shapes such as<br>
tortoise, whale, and one of them, 'the Head' at<br>
the edge of the canyon, has now become the<br>
symbol of the place.'<br>
