Alan Lewis<p>MICROSOFT WINDOWS<br>Mastodon Post</p><p>Did anyone other than me get a really weird survey from Windows today or anytime recently?</p><p>They asked the sorts of questions that might have pertained to the unstable Windows Millennium Edition a quarter century ago.</p><p>I wonder what problems are being reported or anticipated.</p><p>The questions gave me the idea that Windows Team members don't know what they are doing and I hardly needed to be GIVEN that idea. It was already readily apparent.</p><p>: <a href="https://c.im/tags/computers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>computers</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/microsoft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microsoft</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/microsoftwindows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microsoftwindows</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/windows10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows10</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/windows11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows11</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/windowsme" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windowsme</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/windowsos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windowsos</span></a> :</p>
esa<p>I've seen some varying opinions around <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/EndOf10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EndOf10</span></a> and <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> and the inevitable <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/YearOfLinuxOnTheDesktop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>YearOfLinuxOnTheDesktop</span></a> meme, and I want to chime in that this is a regular part of the OS lifecycle. Linux users might appear in a slow dribble otherwise, but we grow more rapidly when MS fumbles. I started Linux to get away from <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/WindowsME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WindowsME</span></a>, and there were similar moods around <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/WindowsVista" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WindowsVista</span></a> and <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Windows8" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Windows8</span></a>. The event is neither a joke nor a start of Linux supremacy, just a good opportunity.</p>
🇺🇦 haxadecimal<p>If I use dd (on Linux) to copy an entire Windows ME bootable IDE drive to another drive (same capacity or higher), shouldn't that still be bootable on the same computer?<br>Did that. Trying to boot copied drive starts trying to boot ME, then hangs. Swapped back to original IDE drive, still boots fine.</p><p>And yes, I'm well aware that running Windows ME is a Bad Idea (TM). It's a long story.<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WindowsME" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WindowsME</span></a></p>
