Got stung by a wasp, cleverly hiding inside the handle of the sauna bucket.

Big wasp hurts a lot 😬

Reminded me of when I was pulling up anchor on the foredeck of our boat in Greece and took a step back without looking. Onto a wasp, which stung me into that soft skin between the toes.

I had the anchor out of the ground already, so couldn't stop to hold my toe. @vaviurka back at the helm was wondering why this routine operation yielded so much swearing until I limped back 😆

I seem to have a lot of paper wasps in the yard at the moment.. I'm pretty sure they have a nest in the roof of the garage because they're following the fence line along to it.

I don't have to get rid of them, right? Like they're not terribly harmful or aggressive and I can just leave them be (pun intended..) and not have to get someone in to kill them, right?

My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

The 2022 Korean translation of Locked in Time (by Dr Dean Lomax & published by Columbia University Press) commissioned me to colourise my 50 greyscale illustrations. Here's "Condemning the host," showing a prehistoric wasp (Xenomorphia) injecting an egg into a fly pupa.

Yesterday I saw my 2nd "common" ectemnius, on a roadside near Lincoln, #NZ. This wasp is from Europe, Asia, & North America. It was first found in the southern hemisphere in Feb 2020 in Christchurch by Hannah Nolan, for her undergrad entomology collection at #LincolnUniversityNZ. It triggered a biosecurity response, and she passed the course.

There have now been 30 observations, all in and around Christchurch, as it slowly expands.

Given the Orange Felon’s push to erase everyone who isn’t a white male from history, let’s post links to original history sources here and keep the knowledge alive.
