@grapeshot Absolutely this. That #retrocomputing is *so* big and yet there are no #Win9x drivers for #VirtualBox, an open-source program, is a fecking travesty.

Seriously, for everyone who wants to make up excuses for why they still use #Windows should really shove the few shitty #Apps that won't run on #Wine into a #VM.

VirtualBox 7.2 Beta adds support for Windows 11 on ARM (both as a host operating system and a guest). There are also some bug fixes, UI updates, and other changes. https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=113650 #VirtualBox #Virtualization #WindowsOnArm
The #VirtualBox 7.2.0 beta announcement at https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=113650 has another announcement embedded in it:
VirtualBox source code now also available on GitHub at https://github.com/VirtualBox/virtualbox .
If you want to report issues needing tracking, use https://github.com/VirtualBox/virtualbox/issues .
@thelball why would yu even want to do that?
Actually I need a solution that runs on Linux too as I’ll be moving this machine off Win11 at some point :/
Edit: #PCem is on Linux but on this laptop I may struggle to run a P166 #VMware is apparently available on #Linux and others have said that it’s more stable, but I don’t know what the driver situation is like; every VM vendor has abandoned 9x support
— my #Win95 VM uses the #VirtualBox 6.0 drivers as those were the last to support 9x

Grrrr #VirtualBox is pissing me off.
One of my USB devices absolutely refuses to work with it.
It can be seen with lsusb, it shows up in VB's list, but then it describes itself as an "Unknown Device" and gives NS_ERROR_INVALID_ARG (0x80070057).
Please #Linux nerds - explain what trivial thing I am missing!
(Yes, I have updated to latest versions, my account is in the vbox group, I have rebooted, USB is connected directly.)
Is this reproducible with non-FreeBSD VirtualBox hosts?

Lessons learned from setting up a Linux desktop VM on a Windows 11 Home host
VirtualBox is more functional than Hyper-V Manager but much slower. There are a lot of tricks for getting this right. If you turn off Secure Boot you might permanently lock yourself out of Windows.
