JulianDid you know that you can also use UV light to get amazing photos? For this you need to know about yhe UVIVF (ultraviolet induced visible flourescence): if you direct an UVA lamp/torch to a plant, it begins to glow due to the light. TJOxeye (UV, Visible);<br> <br> OK, this is one failed attempt but I'm posting it anyway. You can see here clearly the difference between UV (left) and normal (right) looks for this oxeye flower (which I hope I got the name for right). Both images were taken handheld and I was hoping that with the help of PS that I can combine them together to make a "bee vision" image, but unfortunately, PS failed me. I tried to do it manually, but it didn't work quite well. So, decided to post it as is side by side just for comparison. You see how the center of the flower is dark; something you can't see with the naked eye.<br> Even though I corrected the colors like in the previous shots I've been posting for the past 3 days or so, but the UV colors here just looked different - not complaining though. <br> Now, I'm trying to think of more targets to shoot in UV!<br> Now that I don't have anything new left, I think I'll go back to my archive to post daily.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/flower?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#flower</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bloom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#bloom</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/blossom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#blossom</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/uv?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#uv</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ultraviolet?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ultraviolet</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spectrum?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#spectrum</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spectral?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#spectral</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/nature?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#nature</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/natural?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#natural</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/oxeye?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#oxeye</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/daisy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#daisy</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goodmorning?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#goodmorning</a>
TJUV Maggie (2);<br> <br> Another one of Maggie, in ultraviolet, and again using focus-stacking to help maximize the sharpness (but this sharpness would be taken away from noise-cleaning later). Another crop here as well, and what annoys me the most if the far left leaf which I was going to remove but totally forgot! <br> In this once, I decided to increase the saturation a bit to enhance the blues, but probably the yellow tint at the center is not quite clear because of the angle or the movement of the successive frames and merging them into one; not sure 🤷🏻‍♂️<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/uv?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#uv</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ultraviolet?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ultraviolet</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spectrum?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#spectrum</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spectra?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#spectra</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/nature?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#nature</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/natural?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#natural</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/flower?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#flower</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bloom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#bloom</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/blossom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#blossom</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goodmorning?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#goodmorning</a>
TJUV Maggie;<br> <br> Remember Maggie? The pink flower? This is it in UV. <br> Since it was shot handheld and with UV (and IR block) filters, the exposure was hard and ISO was on auto and naturally rose to 6400, hence the noise. I tried to clean the noise but touching it further would render the image so soft. This is also a crop from the original (a took out a big chunk out of it). <br> What's interesting here is how the middle portion is tinted yellow a bit - I've actually put on some saturation (when colors were correct the flower was almost white), and this yellow comes out naturally when saturation is added, and would be even stronger if the saturation was even added more. It is speculated that bees see such differences in the flowers under UV. <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ultraviolet?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#ultraviolet</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/uv?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#uv</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/flower?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#flower</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bloom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#bloom</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/blossom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#blossom</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/nature?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#nature</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/natural?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#natural</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spectrum?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#spectrum</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spectral?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#spectral</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goodmorning?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#goodmorning</a>

I plan to discuss a few tools that may improve that experience, along with any gaps that still aren't addressed. </p><p>One of the tools I want to include is uv. I'm looking at the docs, and the sort of "getting started" bits of them are far more involved than I would want to provide in this situation. I'm unfamiliar with uv myself, so I'm unclear on what steps would make sense for the situation I've described. I'm hoping someone who is more familiar with it can help me with the specifics here. Basically, once installed, what basic steps are necessary to use uv to go from nothing, to having the latest Python installed, getting access to the REPL, writing my first basic Python script, and running that script? </p><p>I realise there are several "Getting started with uv" posts, but I'm looking for something vetted and reliable that speaks to the specific path I listed above. If you are knowledgeable here, and can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. </p><p>Thanks so much!</p><p><a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/uv" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>uv</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/learning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>learning</span></a></p><p>Note: Please do not send me a "getting started with uv" search link. My statement above covers why I'm not willing to rely on that with my limited knowledge.</p>

Likely Jan Lukas<p>By then, I was able to track down yet further information on yellowed acrylic and that suggested to me that the yellowing I was seeing was more likely due to the pendant lamp's placement near a <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/window" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>window</span></a> and <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/UV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UV</span></a> source, NOT <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/cigarette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cigarette</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/tar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tar</span></a>.</p><p>Alas, it seems the only scientifically-proven way to remove such yellowing is with a LOT of hydrogen pyroxide and hours (days?) in the sunlight -- something not possible under my living conditions.</p><p>21/x</p>

Likely Jan Lukas<p>We decided on red for the back hook--this was fortunate because taping the curved hook would've been pretty terrible bit I also had some red <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/NailPolish" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NailPolish</span></a>* on hand to cover up the white bits to match the tape better.</p><p>* Nail polish can be a very handy tool, too. The more expensive brands are usually worth it for both lower/no smell once dry, and are also usually more <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/UV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UV</span></a>-stable. Tested that last one by constantly repairing gravel chips on my front hood/bumper with French tips-white. 😀</p><p>21/x</p>
