How Cybersecurity Fears Affect Confidence in Voting Systems

American democracy runs on trust, and that trust is cracking.
Nearly half of Americans, both Democrats and Republicans, question whether elections are <a href="news.gallup.com/poll/651185/pa... schneier.com/blog/archives/202

But you know what’s worse than failing?
Not trying at all.

Because if there’s even one person out there who’s also feeling isolated…who’s also feeling like they’ve lost something vital in all this noise…who’s also ready to build something better—then it’s already worth it.

This is the risk.

This is the work.

This is the invitation.

Let’s start over—together.

@tg9541 I’ll admit that we cannot determine whether the “intentional stance” is evolutionarily maladaptive or not because evolution works on very long time scales over vast populations of individuals. There are also many innocuous situations where it is not maladaptive in an individual sense, e.g., playing with dolls. The problem arises when we over-#trust intelligent agents and become over-reliant on them. This has been a problem since well before #AI came around.

There's a simple reason why #Trump getting involved with other dictators is guaranteed to cause more and more wars: his lies.

#Peace is only possible when there's trust between peoples and their leaders.

Trump is a compulsive liar. Therefore the pillars of American #ForeignPolicy are now lies. Americans elected an opportunistic liar, and therefore others think Americans are the opportunistic liars he represents.

Lies erode #trust and poison peace.
That vacuum is the opportunity to start #war.

2/ The use of first person in its responses and references to how it feels, empathy etc. are highly deceptive and manipulative. But remember, #ChatGPT has no intention, no feelings, no understanding, no more personality than a shovel in the garage. It is a *tool* nothing more. You can no more #trust its output than you can trust a hole made with the shovel. Trust is about accepting the risk that what you get will not be acceptable (or worse). My attention here is on the people and organization that made this tool: their intention is to deliberately deceive and they do it very well. I believe this is unethical and unjustifiable, but many people do not.
