PC Repair shop doesn't work on phones. Will take it to the place the manufacturer suggests and see if it can be repaired/how much. Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>Got my computer back from the repair shop! $456 later and it does seem a far faster machine. I don't know of its the new SSD, the fresh install of Windows, or the fact I've been using a potato for a month, but I'll take it.</p><p>The TouchPad seems to work better too.</p><p>Haven't changed the styling yet, enjoying the ambiance of default Win10 for a bit. We'll, I did enlarge the font, and make the cursor larger and pink so I can see it, but the default background and light gray theme are still there.</p><p>Downloaded a dozen apps thus far, but I think to try and keep it light, I'm going try and use PWAs for anything that will only work while online. One app I'm feeling is actually superior to the app atm. We'll see if that sentiment stays around.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaPosts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaPosts</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Windows10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows10</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Win10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Win10</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/PC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PC</span></a></p>
Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>Ooh, StartPage is listing TMDB (The Movie Database), a community driven alternative to Amazon-owned IMDB, now. That's very cool. Thus far I'm still using IMDB more professionally, (it lists more obscure trivia that I get asked about than TMDB atm,) but for my own use, TMDB has been great.</p><p>Very cool.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TMDB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TMDB</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/IMDB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IMDB</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TheMovieDatabase" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TheMovieDatabase</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/InternetMovieDatabase" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InternetMovieDatabase</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaPosts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaPosts</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/StartPage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>StartPage</span></a></p>
Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>Talked with the computer shop guys. I'm getting 2/3 things fixed. Battery was $120 which...hmm. So no new battery.</p><p>They'll get the WiFi working, (atm he thinks it's crossed signals from different programs,) and replace/upgrade the SSD. The C Drive is placed between the motherboard and keyboard, so he has to remove the whole motherboard to get at it, thus charging extra. When I looked up to do it myself, the difficulty rating I saw was essentially, "pain in the ass," so I never bothered. He'll also clone the old drive onto the new, which I wouldn't have been able to do.</p><p>All in all it stands at $360 at the moment.</p><p>Not great, but significantly enough less that I opted for it instead of just buying a new computer.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaPosts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaPosts</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Computer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Computer</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/MSI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MSI</span></a></p>
Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>Since my main computer isn't connecting to the internet, I'm trying to make my janky windows ARM tablet run a little smoother. Best I can figure atm is to free up more space on C. It's only 32GB, so that's tricky. One thing I e been doing is moving what I can into Portable Apps on the D drive, (a micro SD card.) Tonight I moved <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/@Vivaldi" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Vivaldi</span></a></span> and <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@libreoffice" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>libreoffice</span></a></span> into this configuration. Thinking <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.online/@thunderbird" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>thunderbird</span></a></span> is next since the normal method still put 2GB of emails I think? on C.</p><p>It's a neat technology. From what I can tell, portable apps are designs to not use windows registries. That keeps it from adding to C and allows the app to be movable to different devices.</p><p>Even if I leave this computer alone with Thunderbird, I might do that with my work computer.</p><p>Shame Discord and Facebook Messenger don't have them. They're the biggest hogs left.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaPosts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaPosts</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/PC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PC</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/PortableApps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PortableApps</span></a></p>
Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>Updated my phone's wallpapers for Halloween! Like last year, I'm using phones of my bae:<br><a href="https://www.picnob.com/profile/usagi_lunnaya/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">picnob.com/profile/usagi_lunna</span><span class="invisible">ya/</span></a></p><p>I've followed her off and on for years and she's just a really good cosplay model. Anyway, this is of her cosplay of "Dark Rapunzel,". Either from the Disney move or show, I've never seen either. But the solid black eyes are spoopy enough for the month.</p><p>As she posts most often on Instagram, the quality of the photos is shit. So I processed them through the AI tool that I have that has no access to the internet. It smoothed out all of the compression, and since it fucks up eyes frequently, the solid black helps.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Halloween" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Halloween</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaPosts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaPosts</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Spoopy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Spoopy</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Rapunzel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Rapunzel</span></a></p>
Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>Hmm.</p><p>Something I'd like <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/computer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computer</span></a> wise is my own local cloud. As is a harddrive that computers and phones can connect to on my network, but not the internet at large. So I could save stuff on one computer to it, and access it from my phone at home.</p><p>This would allow me to get a computer with a smaller hdd in the future, qnd not have to have things saved multiple places all the time.</p><p>Wonder if there is an out of the box solution for this...</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaPosts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaPosts</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/CloudComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CloudComputing</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/HardDrive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HardDrive</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/HDD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HDD</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/SSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SSD</span></a></p>
