It challenges the traditional consumerist mindset that drives overproduction and leads to items getting thrown away after only a few uses.</p><p>"You can support this effort by donating items from the library’s wish lists. Whether it's a bicycle repair kit for someone who bikes for transportation, kitchen items for a new university student, or a generator for emergency preparedness, every item counts. By donating, you’ll help neighbors save money and push back against the culture of consumerism. </p><p>Here's how it works</p><p>"The Jacksonville Library of Things pilot, located at University of North Florida dormitories, is looking for donations of board games, kitchen items, phone chargers and tools to be used by students living in the dorms, based on a needs assessment conducted with students in partnership with the University.</p><p>"The Central Florida Tool Library (serving Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties) is seeking donations related to disaster preparation and response, as well as home repair and maintenance. These items were identified based on conversations between community members and our partner, <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/CentralFloridaMutualAid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CentralFloridaMutualAid</span></a>.<br> <br>"Each wish list notes whether the item can be gently used or refurbished or must be new. (Certain products must be new for the libraries to ensure they meet safety and fire code standards. But purchasing these items once to be shared among the community prevents each future borrower from buying more.)</p><p>"Links to secondhand and refurbished sites are included where possible. The wish lists also provide a desired quantity of each item. Once the maximum number of items is claimed, you’ll see the request has been fulfilled. The mailing address to send the products for inclusion in the Library of Things can be found in the wish list."</p><p>Original article:<br><a href="https://www.biologicaldiversity.org/programs/population_and_sustainability/sustainability/library_of_things" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">biologicaldiversity.org/progra</span><span class="invisible">ms/population_and_sustainability/sustainability/library_of_things</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/CentralFlorida" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CentralFlorida</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ToolLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ToolLibrary</span></a> Wishlist:<br><a href="https://sokindregistry.org/registry/CFLToolLibrary" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">sokindregistry.org/registry/CF</span><span class="invisible">LToolLibrary</span></a></p><p>Jacksonville Library of Things Wishlist:<br><a href="https://sokindregistry.org/registry/JaxFLLOT" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">sokindregistry.org/registry/Ja</span><span class="invisible">xFLLOT</span></a><br><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LibrariesRule" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibrariesRule</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Libraries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Libraries</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LibrariesOfThings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibrariesOfThings</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/SharingEconomy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SharingEconomy</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/SolarPunkSunday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SolarPunkSunday</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/BorrowDontBuy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BorrowDontBuy</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Degrowth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Degrowth</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/CircularEconomy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CircularEconomy</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LibraryOfThings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryOfThings</span></a></p>

Alfred Chow - Maker of Things<p>At Levenshulme Repair Cafe today, I repaired:</p><p>-A lamp - replaced the brass lamp holder.<br>-A musical bird in a cage - the mechanism needed relocating, so the bird would move, but sadly, no chirps.<br>- A worktop oven - lots of loose spade connectors inside! Squeezed them tight.<br>- A food mixer - a micro switch burnt out, but it was safe to bypass it.<br>-A broken lampshade - I will braze it in my workshop.<br>-An old egg timer - I failed to make it ping again.<br>-A rice cooker - chap had been chasing a red herring fault on the indicator light pcb. The fault was mechanical. A lever wouldn't engage a micro switch properly.</p><p>It was a hectic one this morning! I lent out many tools and consumables, and other repairers were non stop too!</p><p>I also donated a Tacwise 400ELS nail gun to the Tool Library. Hardly used and no longer needed in my workshop.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/RepairCafe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RepairCafe</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/ToolLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ToolLibrary</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/Community" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Community</span></a></p>
Tinker ☀️<p>Alright! Meet and greet went really well. Both the Executive Director of all the libraries and the director of my specific branch were very interested in building out the tool library.</p><p>The Executive Director gave me her card and asked me to email her. She'll get me in touch with the project lead who would oversee this.</p><p>I'll reach out to them and see what the current plans are and if there are any obstacles to address.</p><p>This is exciting!!!!</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/solarPunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarPunk</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/LibraryEconomy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryEconomy</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/ToolLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ToolLibrary</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/mutualAid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mutualAid</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/LibraryOfThings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryOfThings</span></a></p>
Tinker ☀️<p>Executive Director of our local libraries is doing a meet and greet with the public tonight.</p><p>Figure I'll head down to the library and join in on the conversation.</p><p>Now that the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/seedLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>seedLibrary</span></a> is set up and thriving, I'm really interested in setting up a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/toolLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>toolLibrary</span></a>. </p><p>We have a decent <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/LibraryOfThings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryOfThings</span></a> where you can rent GoPros, audio equipment, mobile hotspots, various games, and some tools. But we really can build out our Tool Library more. </p><p>Think about it. Unless you're a hobbyist or a tradesperson, you really only need a drill when doing specific repairs or hanging a new picture or when moving, etc. Imagine just being able to go down to the library to grab the tools you need when you need them and then returning them for your neighbor to use.</p><p>I'll let y'all know how it goes!</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/solarPunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarPunk</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/LibraryEconony" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibraryEconony</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/mutualAid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mutualAid</span></a></p>
PhoenixSerenity<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/@IceNine" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>IceNine</span></a></span> This is another huge reason I have been fighting for <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/RightToRepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RightToRepair</span></a> legislation in <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Canada" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Canada</span></a> for almost 2 decades!! I support local <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/ToolLibrary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ToolLibrary</span></a> but also want rights to repair legislation to be enacted &amp; enforced.</p><p>Many of my farmer friends still keep machinery that doesn't require expensive parts. Some have also opted to return to hand &amp; horse plowing.</p>
