I just finished the first essay in #JeffSharlet’s “#TheUndertow: scenes from a slow #civilWar. ” It’s a reflection on the ‘masks’ we wear (w/ #HarryBelafonte).

I know it’s not possible to know everything. But there’s so much that I didn’t know. Like this desegregated Revlon-sponsored, award-winning 1959 #TV special: youtu.be/L6oBqOR8kzo?feature=s

@josschuurmans @obsidianmd @obsidian @nickmilo I’ve used both links and tags, but when the system began to feel ragged (and when it started introducing delays — “Will I link or tag this?”), I launched the Great Tag Apocalypse and converted ALL tags to links.

In practice, though, I’ve found that for status (#ToRead or #Draft) and certain markers (#Idea and #Insight), tags just “feel” better to me. I realize this makes no objective sense.

So: some tags are back.

Cranked up the #Bear app for the first time in more than a year. Found a trove of old notes on various subjects, from a pack of work-related meeting minutes to notes from a long-forgotten doctor visit.

Finding these felt like finding an unexpected little window into my own life. Funny how much of what mattered once doesn't matter now.

(I was glad to rediscover old #ToRead, #ToWatch, and #ToEat lists, as well as notes on cocktails to try!)

Looking for a #YA #BookRecommendation please.

My son is moving into YA and absolutely loves thrillers/mysteries. Many of the #books we’ve found so far in this genre have all-teen-girl casts (do publishers assume boys trot off to the spec-fic aisle at the YA point?). He has zero issue with female leads, but it’d be nice to break it up with some mixed-gender books.

His gold standard is Karen McManus but he also loved How to Survive Your Murder (so he doesn’t mind a little spec in his fic). I’ve already got him The Killing Code (Marney) to branch out into historical thrillers, and am eyeing off The King is Dead (Dean).

Can anyone #recommend any others?
