Today, May 1, 1973, Police Sergeant Neil Howie finds that he is unable to leave remote Hebridean island Summerisle. The island residents celebrate May Day with pagan rituals (The Wicker Man, 1973)
I recently translated a book sample, then at the London Book Fair I got to hear the rest of the plot. And it is AMAZING. If you're into creepy twisted folk horror, you're going to want to read this.
The Last Sacrifice – The folk horror documentary premieres in March. Details here https://bit.ly/3X8InkT

Sgt. Howie could have avoided being sacrificed just by loosening up and having some sex with a hot blonde. Really makes you think.
YO! #Monsterdon! still thinking about #TheWickerman. can't decide if it is parody or not.
Just appreciating today how those pagans gave that fash copper the total run around while also mocking his belief system
Favorite scenes from this one:
Teacher asks a full classroom what the maypole represents, and gets an enthusiastically correct answer!
Equally matter-of-fact reminder that Jesus was "himself born of a virgin impregnated by a ghost".
Parade of wacky pagan costumes in sneakers.
@Bluedepth hm hm may 1 1973 was a tuesday
so he flew out there on a weekend, then?
he had an official plane so he had to have some kind of permission
so i'm thinking they've got 24 hours tops to wreck that thing _or_ send a missing persons report about _him_
"you haven't seen your police sergeant, have you? his plane's still here but we can't find him"
@FE78MLT A bunch of us get together and watch a movie together, _mostly_ a monster movie, and comment along using the hashtag.
It's every Sunday evening and you can get notices by following #MonsterdonAlert
@yatsu ooooh I remember him now
@ranjit @jonny @steggy @Taweret I personally read an implication that this was one of those communities that had held on to a lot more of the old celebrations and rituals of the past, and built on that - I mean, you're not imposing that sort of changeover from the top, you really aren't. But if it's already there (even if thin on the ground) you can certainly encourage it.
