Prison Worksongs

One of the most beautifully haunting things I’ve listened to!

Songs recorded in the 1930s when the railways were being built, to wood being chopped to machining licence plates. It was a time where many were imprisoned, a lot of which for the complete wrong & horrendous reasons

It was not just POC that were imprisoned, but also parts of the Asian & Irish community in the USA.
This was recorded in the Louisiana State Penitentiary, commonly known as Angola

Way back when I was 15/16 in college. I wrote a massive paper on the Blues & slavery & how the latter was the ignition & birth to what would become modern day music, even to this day.
I received a double distinction & then 2year later saw BB King with Gary Moore supporting.
Truly special!

Kerrie - It Takes Grit

Getting into nitty gritty fun with Kerrie

Unlike many darker techno producers, this doesn’t feel like it only a large kick drum, but has these lovely layers to it & has these hooks that make them a good addition to anyone’s collection & set

Dirty, pumping, throbbing & dark - is what I would call Kerrie’s sound. From watching her sampling & production videos, which are inspiring to say the least

Would love to get Kerrie to come play our live hardware techno nights. It would be an absolute pleasure to work with her & learn a few things since we both use Elektron gear

The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy

What can be said apart from ‘damn!’ from The Last Dinner Party

Female empowerment, fragility, sadness & stellar playing swamp this album, in every best part that can be said about it

This album has been on a lot since it got released & has been on in the shop a lot, to say the least.
Worth it, go buy it

Biosphere - Microgravity

Bliss, dance & downtempo 90’s from Biosphere

Feels like this album inhabits what would take over the nineties like malaria, but lucky this was early on, so we are safe… for now

This is ‘after show chill out’, plain & simple

Debbie Harry - KooKoo

Going against the grain is what I want from Debbie Harry

This was the album that the record company wanted Debbie Harry to do another Blondie record, because that’s what people expect.
But instead this came along & it’s amazing

The H.R. Giger cover alone should have been an indicator that things were going to be different from before, & the record company was wrong.
It sold well & showed that artistry shouldn’t be told to stay in it’s lane

Dana Gavanski - Yesterday Is Gone

What can I say, it’s what I needed from Dana Gavanski

A beautiful album, from the music to the writing.
For me, it’s Dana’s voice that captures it all together, but still giving the band & music to be just as expressive. Which this is more apparent in later albums

It’s always a pleasure to see Dana when she comes up to Leeds, it’s been a pleasure knowing her since working together & she is deserved of her success
