Bruce MacDonald<p>Summertime.</p><p>Mark Seeley: "Corn planting in Minnesota is over half finished and soybean planting is over a third finished this week. Topsoil moisture conditions remain adequate to surplus in over 80 percent of the state. As crops germinate and emerge, farmers will hope for more rainfall. Late next week looks to bring more rainfall to the state, while temperatures are expected to average 10°F to 20°F above normal through mid-month."<br><a href="https://blog-weathertalk.extension.umn.edu/2025/05/very-warm-start-to-may.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">blog-weathertalk.extension.umn</span><span class="invisible">.edu/2025/05/very-warm-start-to-may.html</span></a></p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Minnesota" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Minnesota</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/mnwx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mnwx</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/SpringPlanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpringPlanting</span></a></p>
DoomsdaysCW<p>I needed to take a break from the doom and gloom, so I eyed spots in the yard for more wildflowers, a mini food forest, and a spot for three sisters (and sunflowers). I had good luck growing some beans in hanging planters (where the vines can climb), so I'll be doing that again, as well as growing greens, onions, sun gold tomatoes and red potatoes in containers. Attempting beets again, but the local critters like them a little too much.<br><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/GardeningForPollnators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GardeningForPollnators</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/SpringPlanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpringPlanting</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/GardenPlanning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GardenPlanning</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LessLawnsMoreGardens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LessLawnsMoreGardens</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/FoodForest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FoodForest</span></a></p>

VegPlotter<p>Deep Planting for Stronger Cabbages 🥬🌱<br>Bury cabbage seedlings up to their first two leaves when planting. This encourages extra root growth, making plants more stable and resilient. A simple trick for healthier, sturdier crops! <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/GardeningTips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GardeningTips</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/SpringPlanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpringPlanting</span></a></p>
VegPlotter<p>Want to maximize your growing time? Sow early carrots as soon as VegPlotter’s app advises for your area. Plant in well-drained soil &amp; cover with fleece for warmth. Pick fast-growers like ‘Napoli’ for a quicker crop. Top tip: Mix seeds with sand for even spacing—less thinning needed! <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/SpringPlanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpringPlanting</span></a></p>
VegPlotter<p>In Brazil, September marks the ideal time to plant corn, taking advantage of warmer temperatures and spring rains. Choose a sunny spot, ensure well-drained soil, and space plants properly for air circulation. Corn thrives with consistent watering and nutrient-rich soil! 🌽 <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/BrazilianFarming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BrazilianFarming</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/SpringPlanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpringPlanting</span></a></p>

VegPlotter<p>Kick off your squash &amp; gourd planting indoors this April! Sow two seeds per pot, then thin to the strongest seedling. After the last frost, acclimate them outdoors before transferring to well-prepared beds in late May. Alternatively, sow butternut squash directly in the garden soil in late May or early June. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/GardeningTips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GardeningTips</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/SpringPlanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpringPlanting</span></a></p>

🌸 Just Annie 🌸<p>Last summer we basically threw in the towel on growing anything. I just tore all the moss and weeds out of my raised planter bed and in doing so, tore a lot of the soil out. It doesn't take much to really have to start from square one on gardening things. Garden center bound for more soil, I guess. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/SpringPlanting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpringPlanting</span></a></p>
