G7IZU RRD<p>Space Weather</p><p>Ooh, hello? New Active Region AR4079 is starting to look more interesting. </p><p>The sunspot group is currently classed as a Beta with a 35% chance of producing an M-flare and 5% chance of an X-flare in the next 24 hours. It did already produce an M1.7 flare at 05h13 UT this morning. </p><p>There's currently an interesting loop of material visible on SDO (AIA 94 filter - first image). </p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/spaceweather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spaceweather</span></a></p>

G7IZU RRD<p>Space Weather</p><p>From @TamithaSkov on the Twitsite:</p><p>"Multiple investigators asking me whether the ongoing <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/PuertoRico" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PuertoRico</span></a> power <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/blackout" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blackout</span></a> was <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/solarstorm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>solarstorm</span></a> related. At the present time I cannot exclude the possibility that geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) played a role. The power failure occurred within several hours of the storm peak at G4-levels yesterday. <br>That coupled with the fragility of the grid and the increased power consumption expected during the daytime hours (it was 12:40p local time), means the grid was stressed in multiple ways. Since transformer heating from GICs is a slow process, the several-hour delay from the peak storm intensity is consistent. This is a troubling development."</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/spaceweather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spaceweather</span></a> <br><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/PuertoRico" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PuertoRico</span></a></p>
