Fraser Cain
A Last-Minute Addition to Solar Orbiter Allows it to See More Deeply into the Sun's Atmosphere

The Solar Orbiter mission uses an ultraviolet instrument to capture images of the Sun's outer atmosphere - the corona. A last-minute improvement to the camera, made by an engineer, has proven to be effective, allowing the camera to peer more deeply into the corona than initially planned. He added a small mask that can perfectly block the disk of the Sun when the camera's door slides away. If the door is stopped halfway, the mask blocks the Sun, and more faint ultraviolet radiation can be detected.

#solarorbiter

https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Solar_Orbiter/Camera_hack_lets_Solar_Orbiter_peer_deeper_into_Sun_s_atmosphere
