Arguing that before social media, Americans could largely separate ourselves by politics/culture, doesn't account for legacy/mainstream/establishment/corporate media. Nobody has been able to escape their framing of reality for a century. Like water to a fish, I get how people comfortable with their biases don't even recognize this problem.
