Blockforest<p>Well this could be business killing. Still trying to work out the particulars but looks like either a customs fee of 10-15% added to all orders when they enter the US or a flat rate $80-200 fee (!) per shipment to the consumer for first 6 months. And just in time for the busy Halloween/xmas period when I usually do well 😅 so if you’re in the US maybe order now to avoid future tariffs! Andrew Lewis Workshop<p>First staff meeting of the year today, had to go to the workshop in the snow. The commute took about 30 seconds, which is almost double the normal time. Meeting was a waste of time. Handmade Hearts<p>Tomorrow begins the Handmade Hearts transition sale! This is in persuit of the goal to empty my current shop inventory.</p><p>Everything will be sold for 20€ (that's $22.11) plus shipping until everything that wasn't already under that price is gone. This is happening on my <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/ArtisansCooperative" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ArtisansCooperative</span></a> storefront, which means right now it only applies to the US and Canada unless you ask me directly to set up a payment through Stripe.</p><p>Important thing to note about the shipping! The price to ship a box that most of my items need to fit in is $18 to the US and Canada — but multiple of them can fit in the same box. If you buy more than one item, you only pay that shipping once.</p><p>With that in mind, you could potentially get two bags and a hat that would total over $300 if you got them one at a time before, for no more than $80 now. In one box!</p><p>This is not a reflection of the true value of my work, but of a need to get more immediate sales in order to move into a new phase. Her store was kinda a disaster so it was impossible to photograph. </p><p>I had never met her before, but on the first time meeting her, she said she remembered me.</p><p>I told her that no, we had never met before, but we knew some people in common. She just repeated, "No. I know you. Your name is Fidel."</p><p>Uh, no. I'm Sheldon.</p><p>"Fidel."</p><p>No, really I'm Sheldon.</p><p>"Well, what are we doing today, Fidel?"</p>
Sheldon<p>Exhibit 921 of what it's like to work with <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/SmallBiz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SmallBiz</span></a>. I asked some people for their logos converted into one color images for screen printing purposes. I also offered to do the conversion for anyone who couldn’t do it themselves. </p><p>I just got a logo back that looked like someone printed it out and then meticulously colored it in using a black fine point felt tip pen… an impressive effort to be sure.</p><p>The absurd and difficult parts of working with small businesses is also what I love about it. You'll never be bored and if you thought you've seen it all, just wait a minute.</p>
Sheldon<p>This is what it's like working with small businesses. I'm trying to help someone with their Wix account. I ask for their login info.</p><p>Of course they could assign a sub-account to me, but they don't know how that works so we do it the gangsta way.</p><p>A few minutes later, I get a stray 2FA access code texted to my phone. Ummm... wut?</p><p>OK, so for some unbeknownst reason, they made MY PHONE the recovery phone number and so now everytime they need to login, they now need to ask me to check my phone. </p><p>But wait, so I finally get what I need to login, but for whatever reason, the 2FA for me gets sent to their email (instead of my phone) and I have no idea how we got here.</p><p>Got that? Sheldon<p>I don't know why I'm amusing myself this way today, but I just remembered one of my favorite small business typos ever. There used to be a Japanese restaurant near me that had a massively typo ridden menu. </p><p>The best item on the menu?</p><p>Crap Rolls. </p><p>Even better? It wasn't really a typo. English was not their first language.
