Austin Huang ❤️<p>I see that some are advocating for scrambling <a href="https://mstdn.party/tags/web" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>web</span></a> content as a defense against <a href="https://mstdn.party/tags/scrapers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scrapers</span></a>. There is a <a href="https://mstdn.party/tags/SlipperySlope" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SlipperySlope</span></a> here: recently I notice that Zhihu (the Chinese equivalent of Quora) will scramble Chinese characters on pages if it thinks that the <a href="https://mstdn.party/tags/browser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>browser</span></a> is illegitimate, and Cromite (a privacy-focused Chromium fork) is somehow affected by this. I fear that widespread adoption of such, especially by commercial entities, could bar "non-approved" browsers from the web, which is concerning.</p>
