This article about a nursing home discharging Steven Block, a person with #dementia who then becomes homeless, is unbearably sad. It is an accompaniment to the #WashingtonPost's very good (and devastating) piece on the deplorable state of #assistedliving communities (even the ones with chandeliers). The #care, or lack thereof, for our #elders is a #shanda.

"Advocates for better quality care in nursing homes say the industry’s high staff turnover rates point to the true problem: insufficient pay and poor working conditions." This is what #care looks like in the US. It is, to be blunt, atrocious. Even efforts at improvement come up short. A combined 3 hours of care per day for people in #nursinghomes. It's a #shanda.
