Pepijn Bruienne<p>So this is a fun <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Audio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Audio</span></a> tool for <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/macOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>macOS</span></a> if you listen to various <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/HiRes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HiRes</span></a> and/or <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/LosslessAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LosslessAudio</span></a> formats and want to switch a digital output to the matching <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SampleRate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SampleRate</span></a> on playback - <a href="https://github.com/vincentneo/LosslessSwitcher" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/vincentneo/Lossless</span><span class="invisible">Switcher</span></a></p><p>I'd love for it to match discrete output channels and bitrate along with sample rate to account for multichannel source material 🤔 I may have to play with the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CoreAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CoreAudio</span></a> tricks they use for the app.</p>
James Bartlett :terminal:<p>What's really interesting about this trend of distributing music on 3.5" floppy disks is that floppy disks are, and always have been, a 100% digital medium. They're not measured in minutes of play time, but rather in data capacity (typically 1.44MB per floppy disk). </p><p>Musicians who distribute their tracks on floppy disks have to perform all kinds of complicated digital manipulations to a track before it can fit into such a small space, and just as vinyl records and cassette tapes add their own unique character to the music recorded on them, these digital audio manipulation techniques also significantly impact the tonal and timbral characteristics of the finished product. 💾</p><p>2/🧵</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Tone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tone</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Timbre" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Timbre</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/DynamicRange" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DynamicRange</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/AudioCompression" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AudioCompression</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/BitDepth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BitDepth</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/SampleRate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SampleRate</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/FloppyDisk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FloppyDisk</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/FloppyDisks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FloppyDisks</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/DigitalAudio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalAudio</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Retro</span></a></p>
James Bartlett :terminal:<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://beige.party/@psychictides" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>psychictides</span></a></span></p><p>The first thing I would try is muting the <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/MasterBus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MasterBus</span></a>, leaving all the other settings the same, rendering a silent version of the same track, uploading it, and checking if the hum persists. If so, then the problem is probably somewhere in your <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/rendering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rendering</span></a> chain, and you can start making minor tweaks, one at a time, to find the culprit by process of elimination. Some examples of minor tweaks I'd try:<br>- the <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/SampleRate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SampleRate</span></a> and <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/BitDepth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BitDepth</span></a> (e.g. 48/24) <br>- the <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/dithering" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>dithering</span></a> settings (e.g. on/off, type/style, etc.)<br>- the file type (e.g. <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/WAV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WAV</span></a>, <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/AIFF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AIFF</span></a>, <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/FLAC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FLAC</span></a>, <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/ALAC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ALAC</span></a>)</p><p>I hope that helps, but if it doesn't, you should probably reach out to <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Bandcamp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bandcamp</span></a> support.</p>
