Allyson Shaw<p>'Walking off' illness &amp; the 'sleeping rough' cure--as the <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/SaltPath" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SaltPath</span></a> proposes--always struck me as implausible and cruel. The publishing industry expects pathography as inspiration porn--juicy victimhood redeemed. I have met this grim reality head on, and (only just) survived. There is so much to say...</p>
Allyson Shaw<p>As a memoirist with multiple chronic illnesses, I am watching this <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/SaltPath" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SaltPath</span></a> furore with horror &amp; a certain vindication. Flipboard Culture Desk<p>Author Raynor Winn's 2018 book, "The Salt Path," was a huge hit. It was an autobiographical tale of how she and husband Moth lost their home, Moth was diagnosed with a degenerative condition, and the pair walked the 630-mile South West Coast Path in the U.K. The book sold over a million copies and spawned two sequels and a movie starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. But over the weekend, reporting by the U.K. Observer called the story into question, casting doubt over the circumstances in which they lost their home, and Moth's illness. <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://flipboard.com/@BBCNews" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>BBCNews</span></a></span> has the latest on the tangled tale.</p><p><a href="https://flip.it/0lMuFo" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">flip.it/0lMuFo</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Books</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/bookstodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>bookstodon</span></a></span> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Film" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Film</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/SaltPath" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SaltPath</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/RaynorWinn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RaynorWinn</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/MothWinn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MothWinn</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Autobiography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Autobiography</span></a></p>
