Several <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/p2p" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>p2p</span></a> projects are coming to fruition, and one of the good impacts of the crypto sphere has been a source of money to support some of this work (cf. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/libp2p" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>libp2p</span></a>). </p><p>I've been following one, <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SafeNetwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SafeNetwork</span></a> for a decade which is close to launching with unique promise (no Blockchain).</p>

I look forward to peer-to-peer solutions, once they offer superior UX, eg <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SafeNetwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SafeNetwork</span></a></p>
happyborg<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fedi</span></a> is a big step in the right direction for now, but self hosting will always be vulnerable to centralisation because it is hassle.</p><p>In addition, putting your data in hands you don't control is risky, but by joining the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a> we've just ended up with more hands rather than solving that problem.</p><p>Compare self hosting every service you use with peer-to-peer: all your data, apps and services available anywhere on any device with no hassle.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/p2p" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>p2p</span></a> systems such as <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SafeNetwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SafeNetwork</span></a> aim for that.</p>

Most people don't realise the implications and when they do will change.</p><p>Some of the replies here have educated me too. </p><p>I do also agree we need a solution that doesn't require everyone to understand and avoid the pitfalls, something which is safe by design, doesn't suffer link rot etc. I'm hopeful that will be <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/SafeNetwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SafeNetwork</span></a></p>

So on Safe if you publish a website, anyone visiting will be able to step back through previous versions.
