Welcome to my page, where you’ll find some posts related to #justice work and my #Quaker faith, images of some of my #watercolor paintings, and photos of #birds

I appreciate meaningful interaction in addition to emoticon responses; and I tend not to accept requests from folks who don’t post much or don’t interact much.

Relationships matter to me so if there’s an opportunity to meet up IRL, let’s see if we can make it happen

‘Ella…was held in police custody for more than 12 hours, was not allowed to telephone her parents or a solicitor, and her student accommodation was raided by police at 2am on Friday.’

The more I read about this raid on a #Quaker meeting house of young pacifist, but politically and climate concerned women…the more I want to know who in the #Met authorised it. They need to be held to public account…what honestly has happened to policing by consent of the people?

"No-one has been arrested in a #Quaker meeting house in living memory.

“This aggressive violation of our place of #worship and the forceful removal of young people holding a protest group meeting clearly shows what happens when a society criminalises #protest."

Police broke into a Quaker Meeting House last night (27 March) and arrested six young people holding a meeting over concerns for the #climate and #Gaza.

I'm usually a bit wary of boosting news articles where I'd like to know more of the story before forming an opinion. For this story though, I think it worthy of a boost regardless. Sadly I can't expect to ask anyone for the minutes of the meeting because, well, it got raided by the police. I'd dearly love to know if any of the police thought "Gee, we're going to break into a quaker meeting house and arrest people... are we modestly sure this is a proportional use of force?".

I hate to reduce things to pithy memes, and we have some superb civilian police officers in the UK who do a very difficult job, but I can't help but think of the Mitchell & Webb "Hans... Are we the baddies?" sketch.

I'm told it takes a very special person to flourish in the met police, and I assume policing a capital has nuances that are less relevant elsewhere. I'm disappointed that their surveillance apparatus was not felt capable of monitoring them adequately, and that it was felt force was necessitated.

This is awful, just awful, to see.

"Just before 7.15pm more than 20 uniformed police, some equipped with tasers, forced their way into Westminster Meeting House."

Sorry, but if you're a rozzer bursting into a #Quaker meeting house armed with a taser, you're the baddie. Clear-cut case.

This is genuinely, horrifically, extraordinary. Labour politicians - LABOUR politicians - arguing against citizens being able to make ethical investment decisions.

I do not want - and never would want - my money to support the arms industry.

New server so time for an #introduction

UK based in a very small rural town, currently working in a café at a nearby historic property which is home to a very large orchard and a 600 year old house. Former professional artisan baker (bread) now primarily baking at home and on a much smaller scale at work (cakes).

I love to cook, look after my garden - trying to balance wildlife and growing produce - and spending time outside usually walking/hiking with my husband or going for a run on my own.

Former Anglican Christian monk, absolutely against Christo-fascism/Christian Nationalism. I still worship in a church community and study theology for fun. Silence is a big part of my faith so a lot of what I read is about the Carmelites, Carthusians, Cistercians, and Quakers.

Very interested in permaculture, language learning, amphibians, fibre arts, and folk music.

I often describe myself as gay because it's easier than explaining that I'm on the aro-ace spectrum, especially now I'm married.
