This comment really resonates with me: "so many of them [the people recently fired] took these lower paying jobs, because they wanted to do work they felt actually helped people. You don't often think of government work and passion as things that go together, but there really are people out there that care."
People as an essential part of infrastructure - which in this case happens to be infrastructure provided by government; infrastructure - which includes the people delivering it - as a service.

In Oct 2019, the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals, a British #veterinary #charity, gave Hurricane its Order of Merit. The honor is the animal equivalent of the Order of the British Empire, which the royal family has awarded for #charitable & #PublicService works for over a century.
