DoomsdaysCWEasing my way back into the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Doomposting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Doomposting</a> (and boy, there's a lot of <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/DoomAndGloom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#DoomAndGloom</a> out there). I did spend some quality time at the #<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/M%C3%A9tisOfMaine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MétisOfMaine</a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/PowWow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#PowWow</a> today, and made some new friends -- including a fellow Two-Spirit person, who recognized that I, too, was one. We talked about what to wear when dancing (they were wearing both a ribbon shirt and a ribbon skirt). I mentioned that I felt called to wear a ribbon shirt (with pants), but also use a shawl -- because as a Diindiisi (Ojibwe word for "Blue Jay"), I needed wings when dancing. They totally understood where I was coming from. Hung out with a talented seamstress (a different one than the one who made my shawl), and talked to her about decorating my shawl with Blue Jay colors, along with the Métis symbol, and she should have the work done by the next PowWow. Psyched!

We don't have enough women to have a separate buckskin competition, much less a Northern and Southern style one. Here's a clip of the women's northern buckskin competition. Look at the movement of the fringe on their regalia. These women are highly skilled because they all seemed to keep that fringe moving effortlessly. 5/5

I caught a good clip of the women's fancy shawl and they were so beautiful. 4/5

As they approached the end, there were so many dancers that the floor of the coliseum could no longer be seen. This was the first day and the drummers/singers were in competition. They were lined up on the two sides. On the second day the drummers were in the middle and by the time the dancers entered, they could no longer be seen. The first photo is at the beginning of the Grand Entry. It opened with a dancer holding the eagle staff. Behind him are the war bonnets, then the outgoing Miss Indian World, and the head man and woman dancers. The coliseum floor is empty at this time. 2/5

I've been attending powwows for nearly my entire life and this weekend was unlike anything I've ever experienced. The energy of the dancers and drummer/singers was amazing.
