Citing non-existent papers and scolding her for the mistakes which aren't to be found in the manuscript.I wonder what would be a good line of action? Sometimes the themes of the claim and the reference are quite similar so it is hard to spot the mismatch. Sometimes the reference will have some relevant keywords in its discussion, but the main paper is actually not even investigating the claim. It might look OK on the surface but as soon as you dig into the meaning you see that something's wrong.. Yes, humans do this too but the genAI "errors" are different.So as reviewers we should really check the claim - reference link in a manuscript - if you see this kind of mistakes it probably means the authors have actually no understanding of the topic they're writing about.
