Gorgeous na Shock!<p>I kinda just tend to assume that everyone has a copy of VirtualBox, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pcem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pcem</span></a>, and a multi-TB stash of ISOs from winworldpc.com on their NAS... but I'm occasionally reminded that this is not the case. If this is not you, but you need access to real <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WindowsNT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WindowsNT</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Windows95" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows95</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Windows31" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows31</span></a> for an experiment or two, consider this a reminder that <a href="https://copy.sh/v86/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">copy.sh/v86/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> exists. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RetroComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroComputing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/VintageComputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VintageComputing</span></a></p>
Kroc Camen<p>Actually I need a solution that runs on Linux too as I’ll be moving this machine off Win11 at some point :/</p><p>Edit: <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/PCem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PCem</span></a> is on Linux but on this laptop I may struggle to run a P166 😭 <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/VMware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VMware</span></a> is apparently available on <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> and others have said that it’s more stable, but I don’t know what the driver situation is like; every VM vendor has abandoned 9x support 😢 — my <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Win95" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Win95</span></a> VM uses the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/VirtualBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VirtualBox</span></a> 6.0 drivers as those were the last to support 9x</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a></p>
Kroc Camen<p>My <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Win95" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Win95</span></a> VM has become very unstable on this new machine (AMD Ryzen 7450U) I'll probably have to switch to <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/PCem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PCem</span></a>, but that's so hard to setup and run :(</p>

DesertFOX<p>OK, after almost a whole day of trial and error, I finally managed to run PCem v17 and Windows 98 SE without issues in the windows device manager. It's still not perfect, but I am happy I got this far.</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/RetroGaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroGaming</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/PCem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PCem</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Win98SE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Win98SE</span></a></p>
DesertFOX<p>Since my personal MS-DOS and Amiga collection is nearing its completion, I am going to start looking at 32-bit systems now, running Windows 9x/NT.</p><p>As a very first step, I am checking out all kinds of Windows 98 SE setup discs and system configurations. Here's Windows 98 SE OEM incl. Plus! pack. Running on a virtual Pentium 233MHz system.</p><p>I must say, this gives me much less of a retro vibe and it feels almost too modern, compared to Windows 3.1x or Workbench 3.x. But, yeah... there were so many great games!</p><p><a href="https://techhub.social/tags/RetroGaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroGaming</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Win98SE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Win98SE</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/Emulation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Emulation</span></a> <a href="https://techhub.social/tags/PCem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PCem</span></a></p>
