😩 Just got a furlough notification from my employer today. I've known this might happen for a while, but it still sucks.

SO with that in mind I'm re-upping the post above👆 about exploring a pivot from tech to ecology for visibility. If you have thoughts, questions, epiphanies I'd love to hear.

While I try to get a gameplan for that together, I'm also scouting around for software dev roles.

I know it's rough out there, but if you know of a connection or opportunity that might be worth exploring, please reach out.

Previous post with some of my dev background is here: hachyderm.io/@MightyRedPanda/1

Hachyderm.ioRoss Young (@MightyRedPanda@hachyderm.io)Just found out my client contract is unexpectedly ending at the end of this month, and that puts me at risk of a layoff at my consulting firm after that. So I'm trying to get ahead of things and find a new team to utilize my almost 10 years of experience in Web and software engineering. **About me:** 🌐 I have professional experience with TypeScript, Vue, Nodejs, Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby/Rails and more. Plus I enjoy exploring a language or framework I've not used before, and I have proven I can ramp up my comprehension quickly. 🧭 I am based in the US Central Timezone (or UTC -5) and am looking for remote roles that work well with that. 👨‍💻 I have worked up and down the stack and am open to a variety of position focuses. **About my new team:** 🧠 They value competency and critical thinking over specific stack experience, prioritizing open collaboration and knowledge sharing. 🔧 They take standards and best practices seriously, not reaching for the quickest solution for its own sake. 🌎 (ideally) They seek to help solve problems that impact major issues of our time. **About you:** 👋 You have connections to folks I should talk to, or you *are* someone I should talk to. ‼️ You know of or have seen roles that might be worth looking into. 🔁 You can boost this to try to connect it with folks who might fit one of the first two points 😁 I'm grateful for your input. Thanks y'all. #GetFediHired #FediHired #OpenToWork

I'm eager to prove my worth as a software engineer! In a 6-month embedded software internship, I developed YubiKey-based authentication over SMBus to secure firmware updates and manufacturer-only troubleshooting features for a military wearable battery device. I implemented SMBus features and ensured compliance with SMBus spec and military specs. I'm goal-oriented, dedicated, and ready to contribute. Let's chat!

I suppose today is as good a day as any to announce this: after 13 years, I am no longer at Mozilla and I'm looking for my next thing.

25 years experience in web design and front-end dev (non-React). Mostly dev for the last decade (in a Python/Django environment), but my design roots mean I work well with designers. I'm especially interested in scaling design systems but I've done a LOT of "turn the mockup into a web page" work and I'm pretty good at it.

Ideally looking for fully remote but I'm open to a hybrid situation in the SF Bay Area, if the circumstances fit. Also looking for full time, but open to freelance/contract gigs as well.

I don't know what else to put here. Am I doing this right? Oh yeah, hashtags.

🌼 Hey Mastodon! 🌼

After four years at Oracle, I've decided to embark on a new adventure and am currently seeking new opportunities in the tech world. 🚀

I'm especially on the lookout for roles in Developer Relations/Advocacy or Senior Technical Writing/Docs Management. With two decades as an independent developer and extensive experience in developer relations, I’m passionate about connecting with the developer community and bridging the gap between users and products.

Here’s a bit more about what I bring to the table:

⚙️ Developer Relations/Advocate: I understand the developer mindset and have built strong relationships over the years.
✏️ Senior Technical Writer/Docs Manager: I create clear and insightful documentation, drawing from my extensive writing background, including blogging and working with high-profile publications.

In addition to my writing/advocacy experience, I’m well-versed in programming languages like Ruby, Objective-C, and JavaScript, and I also dabble in Swift and Python. My web development journey spans over 30 years, keeping my skills in HTML and CSS sharp.

If you have any leads, advice, or just want to connect, please drop me a message! I’d love to hear from you. Your support means the world to me as I embark on this new chapter. 🧑‍💻💖

Thanks for reading!
