Matthias Dittgen :bc:
another leisure project while the temperatures outside are unbearable this week. OpenSCAD
Due to this topic coming up recently, we'll have a look at how #OpenSCAD supports typographic features some modern fonts have. A list of features can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_typographic_features along with a short description of what they do.

OpenSCAD supports enabling those features when specifying the font to use in the text() module.

The screenshot shows the different display of the "Linux Libertine G" font (https://www.numbertext.org/linux/) with "Small Caps" and "Oldstyle Figures" features enabled.

Jasper 🍉
It seems like if the object is in the middle, you can't see it. #openscad

used 1/F = 1/a + 1/b and ya/yb = -za/zb, basically.

But also a bit of a hack with the shapes, used the size changes to take an input shape of light, `hull`ing it to a central point and then adding `scale(-1)` which is does the end beyond the focus. The result is `intersection`ed to the relevant area.

The next input it made by using that shape and intersecting with the lens.(1/2)

OpenSCAD
Even though it has been a bit quiet here, #OpenSCAD development is going on including quite a number of first-time contributions. We'll look a some of the new features in the next couple of posts...

Let's start with a GUI improvement. It is now possible to define the behavior of mouse buttons using a predefined setup or by choosing an action for each mouse button directly. Many thanks to Harry Braviner who added this feature.

Zack Cerza
Over the last few years I've built a ton of small gadgets - mostly various WiFi-based sensors based on ESP devices - but more recently BLE via nrf52840. They're all oddly-shaped, enclosure-less, and getting a little dusty.

A friend who's moving far away gifted me his 3d printer, and I immediately started learning Blender to be able to design my own things. The last time I'd used any sort of CAD was over twenty years back.

There's probably a better way to do this, but I'd been creating one rough model of each device, then a larger model representing the case, then doing a transform op to subtract one form from the other. It gets the job done, but the workflow kind of sucks - between iterations there's a lot of undoing.

Today I discovered OpenSCAD, which allows me to define the models in code - it makes it so much easier to visualize the before & after, and iterate quickly! Such a huge improvement for me.

#3dprint #blender #openscad

At least with BOSL2. The spiral can be parameterized differently, I've kept it close to your draft, but instead of minimal diameter and pitch I used minimal and maximal diameters. Here's a code snippet that produces picrelated: https://github.com/kauzerei/OpensCadaver/blob/main/drafts/bike_strap.scad
You need to have BOSL2 (edit the path accordingly).
