Bob LeFridge :tinoflag:<p>The ODT headline says "Drivers urged to look out for sea lions on coastal roads". This is good advice because mummy sea lions with their babies are active on land at this time of year, keeping away from randy males.</p><p>The story is about sea lions, but the sign in the photo clearly says "Seals". Given the healthy number of local sea lion births this year, the ODT surely missed the opportunity to use a "New seal" sign. ;-)</p><p><a href="https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/drivers-urged-look-out-sea-lions-coastal-roads" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/drivers</span><span class="invisible">-urged-look-out-sea-lions-coastal-roads</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/NZ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NZ</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/SeaLions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SeaLions</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/ODT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ODT</span></a></p>
John Valentine :tinoflag:<p>"Do we want the ideal people for these jobs to have experience, intelligence, reliability, integrity, humility, honesty, consistency, empathy in their leadership? Hell, no. Let’s have lies, deceit, abject hypocrisy, irresponsibility, arrogance, discord, apathy, callousness and sycophancy instead." ODT swallows the thesaurus today in a Signal editorial.<br><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/nzpol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nzpol</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/ODT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ODT</span></a></p>
Bob LeFridge :tinoflag:<p>Today's ODT editorial asks:</p><p>"Was yesterday the day that National Party leader Christopher Luxon’s all-consuming desire to become prime minister, come what may, backfired loudly?"<br> <br>They question the enormous damage to the National Party’s reputation.</p><p>"Mr Luxon appears to have put his own prime ministerial desires ahead of the good of New Zealand and New Zealanders in giving this Bill tacit initial support."</p><p>Un-paywalled:<br><a href="https://clearthis.page/?u=https://www.odt.co.nz/opinion/editorial/pointless-and-polarising-politics" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">clearthis.page/?u=https://www.</span><span class="invisible">odt.co.nz/opinion/editorial/pointless-and-polarising-politics</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/NZPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NZPol</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/ODT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ODT</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Luxon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Luxon</span></a></p>

Bob LeFridge :tinoflag:<p>No no no, ODT. Your headline "Vigilantes 'targeting paedophiles' in Christchurch" is very wrong.</p><p>Nobody is 'targeting paedophiles' -- they're targeting gay men. Your story even says so. And the perpetrators are not "vigilantes" -- they're violent thugs.</p><p>Sheeesh!</p><p><a href="https://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/vigilantes-targeting-paedophiles-christchurch" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">odt.co.nz/news/national/vigila</span><span class="invisible">ntes-targeting-paedophiles-christchurch</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/ODT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ODT</span></a></p>

Bob LeFridge :tinoflag:<p>I remember the Mountain Scene as a great local rag. Scoop knew exactly what was happening in QT &amp; MS was the voice of the village.</p><p>After the ODT bought the publication, the poor old Scene became little more than a PR rag for QT business. Investigative journalism wasn't on their menu.</p><p>Now it appears that the ODT may be killing off the Mountain Scene, because today this link redirects readers straight to the ODT's Queenstown page.</p><p><a href="https://www.scene.co.nz" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">scene.co.nz</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/MountainScene" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MountainScene</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/ODT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ODT</span></a></p>
