DoomsdaysCW<p>Large <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/AntiICEProtest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AntiICEProtest</span></a> fills street in <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NorthAustin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NorthAustin</span></a>; 2 arrested by APD </p><p>By Elizabeth Evans and Jenna King<br>Updated February 4, 2025 </p><p>"Austin police later said in a statement Tuesday that two people were arrested at the protest.</p><p>"APD said the gatherings were 'mostly peaceful' but stated there was a group of 'agitators' that engaged in violent behavior, throwing rocks at police officers and driving recklessly.</p><p>"'To reiterate, the events were mostly peaceful, but unfortunately individuals who were not participants in the organized gatherings joined in and disrupted the peace. As always, APD respects our community’s right to peacefully demonstrate, however we will not tolerate behavior that puts our community and officers in danger,' the statement concluded.</p><p>"At around 1:30 p.m., a brief police pursuit happened in an attempt to apprehend a driver 'engaging in dangerous conduct', says APD, resulting in the arrest of one person for reckless driving and their vehicle being impounded. APD did not elaborate on what the 'dangerous conduct' was. </p><p>"Austin police say that the crowd dispersed at the request of the organizers, despite many people seen on camera remaining in the area.</p><p>"APD then says at around 9 p.m., the 'agitators' returned to the area and a fight broke out among those gathered, which prompted a police response.
