Neuromatch<p>Two key takeaways stood out at <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/SONA2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SONA2025</span></a>:<br>➡️ Open-access datasets from Africa are emerging. But barriers to broader data sharing remain.<br>➡️ Equitable, collaborative partnerships between high- and low-income research communities are essential to global progress.</p><p><a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/GlobalNeuroscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GlobalNeuroscience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Neuroscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Neuroscience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/NeuroscienceConference" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroscienceConference</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/AfricanNeuroscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AfricanNeuroscience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Neuromatch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Neuromatch</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/OpenScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenScience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/NeuroAI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroAI</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/MentalHealthAI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MentalHealthAI</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/ComputationalScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ComputationalScience</span></a></p>

Danai Riga<p>Over at the ex-bird, people were always loud about their accomplishments, aka new papers, grants, promotions etc.. </p><p>I miss this content here in mastodon. <br>I miss what feels like a valuable source of exciting news/data. But mainly, I miss the opportunity to join in the joy.., to massively celebrate milestones &amp; to acknowledge their deserving nature.</p><p>I wonder if this is a feature of the less "showy"/more raw character of the fediverse. Or it's just coincidence in the <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/neuromatch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>neuromatch</span></a> instance TL. </p><p>Either way, would REALLY love to hear what people are proud of lately, and cheer along with them. If you do happen to wanna toot your own horn, I'm listening.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/academicchatter" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>academicchatter</span></a></span></p>

Currently, I am PhD student at the Max Planck School of Cognition, supervised by Simon Eickhoff and Juergen Dukart at Jülich Research Centre.</p><p>🧠📊🧬 <br>In general, I am interested in multimodal data acquisition and integrative data analysis approaches to understand how processes on different biological levels (e.g., behavior, brain metabolism, brain structure, genetics) lead to what we consider psychiatric disorders. Right now, I focus on how cortical distributions of neurotransmitter receptors, cell populations, and brain metabolism relate to (a)typical cortex development.</p><p>🧗‍♂️🚴🐮🌱 <br>Apart from my research focus, I am interested in open science and data visualization. Also, I climb, cycle and live vegan for ethical and environmental reasons. </p><p><a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/NeuroScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NeuroScience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Development" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Development</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Psychiatry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Psychiatry</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/MentalHealth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MentalHealth</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/DataScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DataScience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/OpenScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenScience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/DataViz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DataViz</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Science</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Research</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/phdstudents" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>phdstudents</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/neuroscience" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>neuroscience</span></a></span></p>
Valentin Riedl<p>😩 third migration, but feeling finally home on <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Neuromatch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Neuromatch</span></a> server 🥳 <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/reintroduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>reintroduction</span></a> </p><p>Why neuroenergetics is 🤙 brain stuff?</p><p>In my lab, we study the <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/neuroenergetics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>neuroenergetics</span></a> of the human connectome with multiscale brain imaging.</p><p>We have so many unsolved questions 😳:<br>How is energy distributed across the cortex and spent on higher cognitive functions? What are most expensive signaling pathways and mechanisms? </p><p>My lab is split between FAU and TUM (two best ranked German universities in case u didn‘t know yet 😅) and we use the following neuroimaging methods:</p><p>- functional and quantitative imaging on 7T MRI at FAU<br>- quantitative, molecular imaging on an integrated PET/MRI-scanner at TUM </p><p>The group at TUM is funded by an ERC-grant and i will start a new lab as Full Professor for multiscale neuroimaging at FAU in 2023.</p><p><a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/brain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>brain</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/neuroscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>neuroscience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/neuroimaging" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>neuroimaging</span></a> <br><a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/fmri" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fmri</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/metabolism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>metabolism</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/quantitativeMRI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>quantitativeMRI</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/7T" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>7T</span></a></p>
Dan Goodman<p><a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>introduction</span></a> </p><p>I'm a computational neuroscientist (<a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Neuroscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Neuroscience</span></a> <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/CompNeuro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CompNeuro</span></a>) and science reformer based at Imperial College London.</p><p>I like to build things and organisations that make it easier to do better <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a>.</p><p>I made the Brian spiking neural network simulator (<a href="https://briansimulator.org" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">briansimulator.org</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>) with <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@romainbrette" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>romainbrette</span></a></span> and <span class="h-card"><a href="https://neuromatch.social/@mstimberg" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mstimberg</span></a></span>. </p><p>I co-founded <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/Neuromatch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Neuromatch</span></a> with <span class="h-card"><a href="https://neuromatch.social/@kordinglab" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>kordinglab</span></a></span> and a bunch of others, and the SNUFA community with <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mas.to/@fzenke" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>fzenke</span></a></span>.</p><p>In my main research, I'm interested in how the brain uses spikes to carry out computations, and what advantages that might have. Increasingly, my work revolves around using methods from <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/MachineLearning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MachineLearning</span></a> because that finally lets us build models that actually require intelligence, the unique property of the brain I'm interested in.</p><p>I also want to make science better. Neuromatch's mission is to democratise science, and with our new open <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/publishing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>publishing</span></a> initiative (<a href="https://nmop.io" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">nmop.io</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>) I'm hoping we'll be able to dramatically change the murky world of academic publishing.</p><p>You might (ha!) also see some political commentary from me. I'm a left-wing <a href="https://neuromatch.social/tags/anarchist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>anarchist</span></a>.</p><p>Happy to discuss any of the above!</p>
